About this deal

Flossing string is cheap and readily available at your local pharmacy but does require a fair amount of elbow grease on your part, and can often be tricky to slide between crooked teeth or get right into the grooves at the back of your mouth. The only thing a water flosser does is level up your cleaning capabilities with a strong blast of water. Also known as oral irrigators, water flossers spray a high-pressure jet of water between your teeth to clean the spaces that brushing misses, and removes food and bacteria.

You may find that on the first use, your gums aren't used to the power of a water flosser and so they may bleed a little bit, especially if you lacked the commitment to floss with string. It doesn’t need charging, you won’t run out of water mid-floss and, instead of wielding a chunky handheld flosser, you’re using a smaller wand and nozzle attached by a flexible plastic pipe.

There are three intensity settings and two flossing modes and even the standard clean mode left our mouth feeling super-fresh, visibly dislodging any food particles trapped between teeth. The most important thing to remember when using a water flosser is to always place the classic jet tip inside your mouth before turning it on to avoid any splash-related incidents in the bathroom. We know it’s yet one more thing to place next to your toothbrush and toothpaste on the bathroom sink, but trust us when we say you’ll thank us for it. A nice touch to the nozzles is that they have coloured rings and these can be used to identify whose nozzle is whose. It does come with a 2 year warranty to cover parts and labour, so should the worst happen then you are covered. Using a water flosser isn’t as straightforward as using an electric toothbrush and it can take a little getting used to. Only reviews that feature the label "Verified Review" have been checked to ensure that the author actually used or purchased the product.

Traditional dental floss can also be hard to use correctly, especially if you’ve had certain dental work including crowns and braces, and it’s non-biodegradable so not a great choice for the environment. It’s a shame it still packs the same NiMH battery, which Waterpik advises charging once per week if you floss once a day, but at least this model comes with a swanky magnetic charger that clips onto the front of the device and will charge from any USB socket in just four hours. When using the quad stream nozzle, we could finish cleaning even faster as the flow is separated into four water jets, which cover more surface area between teeth in less time. Flossing does an excellent job of clearing out any plaque form between your teeth, and any nylon string coated in fluoride will do the job for you.

After spending 12 years in consumer technology, it was in 2014 that he focused his attention on dental health, having experienced first-hand the challenge of choosing a new toothbrush. We would also be happier if Waterpik replaced the NiMH battery with a newer lithium-ion cell that needed charging less than once a week and didn’t take a good 18 hours to charge. But due to the nature of water flossing you still have to use both within range of a sink so that you can expel the waste water generated. It is largest at the bottom and a fraction smaller at the top, but the upper third of the unit thins out to allow for the hand to better fit to and hold the unit. I know many companies like to underestimate a little but this is perhaps a bit much and doing themselves a disservice.

The best water flossers leave your teeth feeling squeaky clean, are comfortable to use and can hold a charge for weeks.

A minute a day will do the trick, which isn't all that much to ask after a two-minute brush, and the good ones will shut off for you thanks to built-in timers. Some mention that the battery works very well, and lasts just long enough to go around all their teeth. It provides a choice of two power modes and a two-pattern nozzle, giving you a choice of a focused jet and a lighter, rotating spray, and in three of the resulting combinations it feels weedy and ineffectual. However, some dentists believe that standard flossing does a better job of cleaning between your teeth and preventing the build-up of tartar, so the expert consensus is that you shouldn’t stop using normal floss or interdental brushes.
