About this deal

I have received a few over-ear headphones recently, which is something that I am happy about as I have nothing against IEMs but I do prefer headphones, at least when it is not summer (which will be here soon, as we are already hitting 30ºC during the day). Overall, I prefer the tonal balance of the Ghost, it is heavier, has more impact, and is much less often too sharp or too bright, while Athena can be quite a bit more aggressive, especially noticeable in the midrange, where it can push voices considerably more forward. The voices are presented more forward than the instruments by Athena, as it tends to have a bass forward, voice forward, and then treble cymbal crash forward sound, making a strong point of bringing guitars, pianos and violins somewhat in the background, creating a good sense of width. However, treble-sensitive listeners may still occasionally encounter highlighted tracks that cross thresholds, especially in the lower presence range around 6–8 kHz.

It creates the sensation of being enveloped by the instruments, with the vocalist standing directly before you. First of all, quickly in the box you get the headphone, accessory box that contains cable and a carry bag as well as a coin that shows off the Athena name and serial number of your headphone. When I listened to acoustic bluegrass or jazz music, with a lot of strings, there's a false resonating sound that peaks quite high at times. Ultimately, while not 100% accurate, the Athena precisely hits the target consumer with this clever combination of virtues. However, after a couple of weeks I switched back over to my 109 Pro's and quickly could hear the difference in resolution quality. Bass: HarmonicDyne emphasized that they applied a +3dB boost to the sub-bass, which is clearly audible and works to the Athena’s benefit. I have not received any form of compensation or incentive to endorse or promote any specific product mentioned in this review. They are comfortable and are easy to drive, so I actually think that if they were paired with a Quedelix 5K, which has onboard PEQ, they could make a very good set of BT headphones.

Below are measurements of Athena, HD650/Kiss, and Mini-S (measurements taken at 95db spl) -- I think all of them exhibit good distortion control for non-planar/non-electrostatic headphones. Additionally, a mild upper midrange dip reduces hardness but can lack air and articulation at times. HarmonicDyne tuned the Athena with a mildly V-shaped signature that elevates both bass and treble, yielding an engaging, lively sound. It is like a live event where the delays are not quite aligned properly, almost but not exactly, which is what leads me to believe it is a case of reflections inside the cups that is causing this sensation. To power the new 50mm diaphragm, we have developed a new high-performance ultra-fine voice coil and high-flux magnetic enclosure within the driver.I still use them all as references but the ones I enjoy the most and that I drive daily are my Athenas. Listening: GeneralThe Athena departs from a neutral tonal balance, but the deviations seem to compensate for my ears' reduced bass and treble sensitivity at typical listening volumes.

Note: Timings might be affected due to festive seasons or other unforeseen circumstances What happens if the parcel has been shipped but not delivered? The Athena's combination of great imaging, quick decay, and controlled drivers allows individual elements to snap into their own space.
