About this deal

Dolby Vision and HDR10+ content with dynamic metadata is better suited to the restricted brightness of the U7H as it is tone mapped to meet the capabilities of the TV. It’s a powerful smart TV platform that covers all major streaming services including Apple TV+, Hulu, and Twitch. The U7H gets brighter in HDR and SDR, so highlights pop more with HDR content and the TV overcomes glare better with SDR content in a bright room. Hisense 55U7HQTUK 55" 600-nit 4K HDR10+ and 120Hz Dolby Vision IQ ULED Smart TV with Disney+, Freeview Play and Alexa Built-in, HDMI 2. Very much a ‘hit’ with hardly a ‘miss’ on its scorecard, the Hisense U7K has plenty going for it as long as you stay within its comfort zone.

Both models fall under the 10ms threshold we require for consideration for our best TVs for gaming roundup.Edges lose just a little of their rigour, and detail levels take a hit too, but in broad terms the U7K remains a composed and enjoyable watch. The TCL has much better reflection handling and higher peak brightness, meaning it can handle more glare in a bright room. Like most TVs on the market, the Hisense U7H uses a BGR (Blue-Green-Red) subpixel layout instead of the traditional Red-Green-Blue layout.

Unfortunately, that includes most film and premium TV, whether played from a disc or streamed from a service such as Netflix, or through a media streamer. Hisense has informed us that our unit doesn't perform to their expectations and that the TV is out-of-spec. The feet are wide set in the default position, but there's a narrow position if you have a small table and aren't planning on wall-mounting it. As you can see, the greyscale tracking is reasonable with green a tad too high and a slight lack of blue and red within the mix. Enabling local dimming almost completely eliminates the backlight bleed and cloudiness, and the black uniformity looks fantastic overall. The depth and solidity to the image is enhanced by the Dolby Vision Dark picture mode, which gives added subtlety to Dolby Vision content. Essential for gamers and video streamers you'll enjoy the benefit of a more stable connection with less of that frustrating buffering.

This is intensified with HDR content, as the panel tries to look brighter and therefore introduces more blooming suppression, but also more bloom due to the brightness increase. The U7H is also better for watching content in HDR, as it has better color volume and gets much brighter in HDR, so highlights pop much more than on the TCL. In the starkly contrasting party scenes of The Great Gatsby, the cuts and contours of black suits come through clearly against the stark whites of balloons and shirts; they show strong detail without appearing washed out. The sound it makes is no bigger than the screen it accompanies - and so you really should think about budgeting for one of the best soundbars to accompany it.

While the TCL has an inconsistent response time that is particularly annoying to gamers but is otherwise great for most content, the Hisense's response time is just consistently okay all the time. I will add more when I have properly calobrated it but the first things I noticed were the inky blacks, how very bright the tv is even on 50 per cent. With SDR content, such as normal TV programs, news broadcasts and dramas, the colour performance on the U7H is very good, with decent black levels and contrast performance.
