About this deal

But in discovering who has deceived her, Liz may unwittingly find out exactly what happened to Andrew that night. During a weekend away at luxurious Villa Rosa on the Amalfi Coast, 45-year-old Liz’s husband Andrew vanishes, presumed to have drowned in a tragic accident. Mom does her Richard Kimble thing and somehow moves all around the town after assaulting a cop AND at gunpoint takes another one hostage. I thoroughly enjoyed My Husband’s Killer and flew through it keen to discover who was responsible for Andrew’s demise. I was already hollowed out by grief and exhaustion and the overhanging dread of the day ahead, but this was something else entirely.

My children, Ethan and Josh, are downstairs looking younger than their eleven and nine years, upright and silent in their formal clothes. It does it get weird when the book does jump back to different times - which did effect how I expected the book to end. Water droplets cling to the leaves in the trees, occasionally giving up and splashing to the ground. Andrew had had his doubts about going into business with Poppy, but when he’d been looking for a partner to set up a PR agency with fifteen years ago, she’d been the obvious candidate. On the morning of his funeral, Liz discovers that Andrew was cheating on her with one of the women that were in Italy with them. A mother discovers that the nanny who framed her for abandoning her 3-year-old daughter is her ex-husband's new girlfriend. Given the little reviews the book had I didn’t really know what to expect- so I thought why not go and read it myself, enjoy the journey it takes me on. I wasn't sure on this when I first started it, I've read so many books with friends on a holiday where someone ends up dead so that it was going to be same old same old.

The whole movie would have been solved if she could identify her "nanny," so I understand the choice. You might think that you have read this storyline before, but believe me when I say that you haven’t read it like this. They brought lasagnes and flowers and books and chocolate in those slow, quick, hazy days after we got home from Italy, days I can now scarcely remember. In spite of being set up by Valerie/Lisa, she still committed plenty of crimes, so I liked that they didn't hand wave her legal troubles away or ignore them wholesale. The weather is still unpleasantly oppressive, but inside the hall, the atmosphere is lighter now the worst bit is out of the way – or the worst bit for everybody else at least. All of these people have many secrets that come hurtling out at full speed, and this book is definitely NOT short on drama!

Despite the fairly large cast of characters, which does take some sorting out at the beginning, it's a novel filled with suspense, intrigue and mystery. On the day of her husband’s funeral, Liz’s whole world is turned upside down as she discovers evidence of him cheating. There are lots of novels around at the moment that centre around friends who go on holiday together, I really enjoy them and this one is one of the best that I've read in a long while.

My Husband's Killer has the feel of a locked room mystery but the 'room' is actually a remote villa on the gorgeous Amalfi Coast. There was a lot of hype around this book on social media, but having read it, I don’t really understand why! The plot is continual and I didn’t know what to expect, there are secrets around every corner or turn of the page in My Husband’s Killer. As Liz reels from the death, she has to deal with that the killer could have been one of her friends and that the man she thought was her soulmate had some secrets. a slow, almost mundane start led to an interesting middle with tales of the different lives and their secrets then was followed by explosive twists leading to a good finale.

The story opens in the aftermath of this event and moves back to follow events of the holiday, in which simmering tensions come to the surface. Laura Marshall gradually builds on the tension as the plot of the novel develops, but when the final revelations came, leading to some shocking, and hard-hitting reveals for Liz, the tension increases and reaches boiling point. My Husband’s Killer is another cracking psychological suspense novel from a new favourite author of mine!
