About this deal

An axolotl axiom is a guiding principle, designed to help you live a smarter, sweeter, more fun-filled existence. These 4 or 5-star reviews represent the opinions of the individuals who posted them and do not reflect the views of Etsy.

Visual support is effective: each book opens with an impressive two-page photograph; subsequent pages include large pictures, inset images, and size comparison diagrams, with captions and labels included where needed. I mention it here because its section on breeding salamanders uses the Axolotl as the main example, and in so doing, gives a reasonable account, if not completely accurate (its mention of metamorphosing axolotls is rather disturbing in its approach, since it assumes that any axolotl can metamorphose). Books from other countries, cultures, viewpoints, and storytelling traditions can open up a universe of possibility, and the wider our view, the more powerfully books enrich and expand us. This addition to Keating's The World of Weird Animals shares some adorable lesser known animals with young readers. Offbeat humor permeates the text… and accompanies Bondestam’s quirky, multipatterned collage-style illustrations. From tips on organizing your life, to having a cause you care about, to using rituals to beat back procrastination, these axioms are designed to help you create a cozy, solid base from which to navigate the wider world. Even as we admire the axolotl’s spirit and learn more about its babyishness (known as neoteny), we have a responsibility to help preserve these amphibians’ environment so that they can be enjoyed for generations to come. The novel was released in Polish on March 10, 2015, and shortly afterward, on March 24 that year, in English (translated by Stanley Bill). The informational nature of this book allows readers to find the animals they want to read about and read just those sections without being lost. So it was a big deal when scientists in 2020 reported the discovery of a 230-million-year-old fossil, the earliest known salamander, in Kyrgyzstan.

This is the kind of book that is great fun to page through, quote from to unsuspecting nearby people, and savor the bits of knowledge. However, since Cute as an Axolotl implies that the animals selected by Jess Keating, that the animals described and featured in her text are supposed to appear as endearing, as potentially lovable and thus obviously also as sweet looking, sorry, but far too many of David DeGrand's pictures really are not what I would personally consider as cute and cuddly (with some of the illustrations, such as his renditions of the Quokka and the Pygmy Hippopotamus actually appearing even as potentially a bit frightening to very sensitive readers). Not set up for being read aloud, but a great springboard for further investigation on any of the animals mentioned, conservation efforts, or the "science of cute. Based in New York City, she’s swum with humpback whales in the South Pacific and chased after chimpanzees in Uganda, fed elephants in Laos and sung along with howler monkeys in Nicaragua.Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). Brown maintains something of a menagerie of her own, making room in her home for a 180-gallon saltwater fish tank, a 20-year old Scarlet Macaw, a Golden Retriever, and several highly tolerant cats.

Mammals predominate with seven entries, including quokka, pangolin, and pygmy hippo, but there are also birds (saw-whet owl, fairy penguin), insects (rosy maple moth, bee fly), amphibians (axolotl, bare-hearted glass frog), reptiles (minute leaf chameleon), a cephalopod (hummingbird bobtail squid), a nudibranch (blue dragon), and a crustacean (pom-pom crab). This time out Keating has been busy "Discovering the World's Most Adorable Animals," as the subtitle announces. The novel is representative of Dukaj's prose, posing philosophical questions about the future of man and technology.
