About this deal

Smart, sophisticated teens who gobble up Joe Hill or Neil Gaiman novels will enjoy Toby Barlow’s writing just as much. This book fills in a much needed space where there is lacking for books on Slavic witchcraft and magic.

As a character, I could not get a read on who she was or what she wanted, and she just seemed incredibly flat and awful.

She is the author of Madame Pamita's Magical Tarot (Weiser Books, 2018) and The Book of Candle Magic (Llewellyn, 2020). Das Buch ist für mich keine Enttäuschung, sondern eine leichte und unterhaltsame Lektüre gewesen, die jedoch besser hätte ausgeführt werden können. If you are Slavic and want to expand your practice, this is an essential book to add to your arsenal.

I don’t know if you know this, but Slavic peoples are starting to take back their beliefs, not that they ever got far from them. A delightful transposition of several Baba Yaga's from Russia to 1950's Paris -- mixed in with spy tales and murder mysteries. There is nothing magnificent in this world, he thought, that is not born from an act so slight as to go wholly unnoticed. Baba Yaha may ride on the broom or, most recognizably, inside a mortar, using the broom to sweep away her tracks. It’s filled with fox spirits, Tibetan Red-Hat black magic, and other flavours of shamanism, as well as stories of preternaturally intelligent or empowered animals and weird metamorphoses.Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). It was hard to believe that Vidot the detective flea would always find himself in exactly the right place at the right time. Known as Elga, she made a long journey during the war, escaping Stalin’s brutality while gleaning the spoils of war by helping advancing generals and by employing witchcraft as needed. I think we'd do best to remember that Baba Yaga may hide herself in the woods, but she is watching and she is remembering," she says.

In this book they each have a different name, and the name Babayaga seems to become a noun rather than a name. Save yourself the time and instead of reading this, read literally anything else about Baba Yaga that's not written by a man. C'est distrayant et bien enlevé, j'ai passé un bon moment, l'histoire sur les sorcières est assez originale et le rythme est soutenu ; maintenant ça ne restera pas probablement dans ma mémoire, pour moi c'est un bon livre de vacances. Oliver is one of those characters that are always presented as so irresistible and I find to be someone I'd avoid like the plague.I think I’m rounding up because I am so happy that this book proves conclusively that Barlow is not a one-hit wonder. Nice and hefty, wild and wheeling, full of good language, luxuriant descriptions, utter bizzarity—yes, yes, yes. This book offers fresh insights and detailed discussions of the imagery, symbolism, meanings, and motifs of each of the seventy-eight cards. Der Autor interpretiert die Saga sehr frei, kreiert ein faszinierendes Bild der Hexen, aber eben nicht 1:1 aus den Erzählungen übernommen. Everything was just wonderful and so in tune with what I was feeling and needing at that point I truly felt like it was divine ✨️.

Each chapter includes a piece of the fairy tale of Vasylyna, comments from Baba Yaga, and hands-on tips and techniques from author Madame Pamita. Those familiar with Barlow’s debut, Sharp Teeth (HarperCollins, 2008), will recognize the deep gravity the author infuses into his crazed plots. More importantly, you’ll learn the secrets of her magic―crafts, talismans, inscriptions, incantations, and rituals that will allow you to discover your own Baba Yaga within. It borrows some interesting and surprising history about the CIA’s covert involvement with the Paris Review.

He's a poet, first and foremost, which makes this novel glow beyond the excitement of the crazy stream of events. With a bounty of tips and information, this book teaches you to embrace the beauty of these traditional practices and reclaim your personal magic. It feels intentionally misleading and piggybacking on the trendy topic in attempt to gain credibility.
