About this deal

Most the grapes are picked from Cockburn’s own vineyard but a few are specially selected from neighbouring vineyards, all however are pricked from the spectacular upper Douro valley. On its release in 1969, our Special Reserve revolutionised the industry and a single taste will tell you why. Supple tannin, a satin-like texture, perfect balance and unerring purity, this is a fabulous Graham’s that effortlessly fans out and caresses the senses on the finish.

The Cockburn's 2007 Vintage is a very intense purple colour Port Wine, with notes of cassis and a dry, elegant finish. Please note, whilst the majority of parcels sent on this service are received next day, this is not guaranteed. was a tricky vintage for the growers but ultimately, they have been rewarded with super wines with elegance and freshness, good enough for a general declaration. Youthful tannins lend it a slight peppery spice but it’s the extra time spent in oak barrels that gives it its balance and signature velvety smoothness. We recommend that you do not rely solely on the information presented here and that you always read labels, warnings, and directions before using or consuming a product.

Charles Symington, inspired by the great Cockburn’s Vintages of the past, made the outstanding 2011 debut Cockburn’s Vintage under Symington stewardship, which merited widespread international acclaim. Cockburn’s Vintages have extraordinary length and ‘grip’, a term coined by John Smithes, Cockburn’s brilliant winemaker. The memorable retrospective Vintage Port tastings of 2012 and 2015 included Cockburn’s wines dating as far back as 1863 and provided key insights into the style that made Cockburn’s so admired in its heyday. The brand also has a tradition of humorous marketing, with many people still fondly remembering the legendary TV ads from the 70s and 80s. Cockburn's, one of the greatest names in Port, led the development of vineyards in Portugal's Upper Douro valley in the 19th and 20th centuries. Cockburn's Special Reserve was originally introduced in 1969 as the first great Reserve Port and since that time its famous fruity and full-bodied quality, combined with a fine dry finish, has been the benchmark for all Reserve Ports. Its rich concentration of ripe fruit is balanced by the added complexity of spices, all held together by superb structure and balance.

The strawberries are macerated with neutral spirit to allow their flavour to do the talking and it comes out in a sweet and enticing strawberry shortcake flavour when you take a sip. Special reserve still has the lusciously ripe, vibrant fruit of youth and lovely tannins which give it the slightly peppery spice on the tongue. Acquired in 1962 by a multinational, the emphasis shifted away from Vintage Port, but following the Symington family’s acquisition of Cockburn’s in 2010, the company focus was shifted back to one thing: the quality of the wine.Looking back through declared vintages, 2011 produced fabulous wines with freshness and a fruity style which will make them great drinking throughout their evolution. These multi-national companies all promoted the brand heavily and for many it is a name synonymous with Port; the mispronunciation of the name still causes amusement! The driver will input your year of birth into their device and may then require an ID check to complete the age verification process. This 2016 Vintage Port Wine from Dow's is the first wine where the mineral characters really shout to be heard.
