About this deal

For intuitive learners out there - it won't teach you a bunch of math but it will get you enough of a framework to start seeing landmarks and self-directing to relevant subjects for later deeper dives. I thought this book was very unique in its writing style, and it had some very interesting historical aspects to it, including some cool descriptions of how electricity was first introduced to homes, but I did not care for the main character and her poor life decisions. In another nice layout feature, Stone has feature a drawing of a circuit board on the edges of the pages that hold experiments, making it easier to turn directly to the hands-on portion of the book. Students beginning their graduate courses in Physics and Engineering would also find this book very useful to understand the concepts and to have a strong understanding of Electrical concepts before taking up more advanced subjects on Electricity or Electrical Engineering. Angus Peter Campbell’s “Electricity” is both lyrical and earthy, bringing to life a community of colourful characters and a tradition of island living that has a rhythm all of its own.

Whether we are talking about atomic structure, electrical terms, or measurement devices, understanding the theory of electricity is a key concept. A beautifully gentle read, “Electricity”, tells of life and love, and the importance of embracing both the ancient and the modern. The book isn't long and seems somewhat half told with much of Charlotte's future still waiting to happen, the body of the story encompassing three or four years or so at most. The author has such a lovely turn of phrase, capturing big, important truths in seemingly simple lines.gives students the opportunity to learn about electricity and its impact on society—past, present, and future. Once again I have to say I think the review from Publisher's Weekly gives away too much of the story and at the same time I whole heartedly agree with their criticism that as a reader it is difficult to feel emotionally connected with Charlotte the narrator. A hands-on first science series that uses fun and practical activities to explore electricity, light and dark, materials and pushes and pulls. This is a completely unique book which has a lot of layers - an historical period drama, the role of women in this point of history and their vulnerability, the implementation of electricity into normality, the spirtual world, parent/child relationships, the class system as well as descriptions of the natural world. I already know simplified treatments of the theory and I would have found a book on practical electronics to be useful. All of the characters are well-drawn, whether it’s the positively creepy father, the put-upon mother, the querulous Aunt, or the electricity-obsessed Peter. When she's not writing or reading, you'll probably find her walking, dancing, gaming, watching wildlife or baking a cake. However I entered the book with some trepidation considering all she has so successfully written in the non-fiction arena I was unsure what to expect. It’s stirred so many memories of my own childhood, so connected to Housman’s ‘blue remembered hills.

It explains what each bit of the industry is for, why it’s ended up the way it is, its major players and big issues. Explore Electricity is written for an elementary age level, but middle school students would enjoy learning about historical background on electricity while completing the electricity projects. Also it suffers from having bits of information in little islands and no clue as to how to stick them together. As Spiral Tribe’s co-founder and visual artist (or as the Crown Prosecutor described him, ‘the criminal ringleader’ who’d helped ‘mastermind’ Britain’s ‘biggest ever illegal rave’ at Castlemorton), Mark Angelo Harrison has a unique perspective to tell their inside story.Arthur Firstenberg is a scientist and journalist who is at the forefront of a global movement to tear down the taboo surrounding this subject. Few individuals today are able to grasp the entirety of a scientific subject and present it in a highly engaging manner . I think in late high school, or maybe even after I started my electrical engineering degree, I bought a few of his books from Tandy (the Radio Shack brand here in Australia). A quirky touching novel which has as its core premise the transformation of the Hebrides through the arrival of electricity, but which is really a thoughtful reflection on the meaning of community… Campbell, who is a native Gaelic speaker from South Uist, has a poet’s eye for detail and a beautifully understated cadence to his prose. Electricity is part of our modern-day lives in ways that Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison could never have imagined.

Although only 250 pages long, it feels like a much more comprehensive and immersive historical novel. This change to glaring electricity from the soft light of candles wrough many changes on society, and the protaganistic experiences most of them. Concepts like how the grid works, how electricity does work, what different electrical components do and how they do them. Personalised advertising may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of information under California and other state privacy laws, and you may have a right to opt out. This is ‘Cianalas’ the Gaelic longing for home, re-created from a technicolour Hebridean childhood by a grandparent in her Edinburgh exile.

Personally, for a more high level and intuitive understanding of electrical concepts, I generally find educational YouTube videos more effective than books.
