About this deal

Enigma Otiliei (The Mystery of Otilia) is a Romanian novel written by George Călinescu and published in 1933. Her step-father loves her but is too stingy and easily manipulated to truly be able to provide for her financially, which leaves her dependent on the older, wealthier Pascalopol.

I see Felix more of an introvert; he puts up with everyone's opinion, but does never say what he is thinking of, except to Otilia. But he realizes that he needs “ domnişoara Otilia, ea e micul viţiu sentimental” (Miss Otilia, she is my sentimental guilty pleasure), and the two eventually get married. Jerkass Woobie: Aurica lives with a smothering, authoritarian mother who drilled into her the idea that her only purpose in life is to marry.Felix is soon attracted to Otilia who is, by all accounts, an attractive young woman, a couple of years older than Felix.

Like a romantic person that he is, he falls for it and trusts her, which is bringing him only disappointment because she has left him every time when she promised him otherwise. Additionally, he likes to tell people absolutely everythig that happens to him and what he sees on the street on any given day, and when he goes for a walk he likes to stick to a certain itinerary and absolutely refuses to go to certain places. Meanwhile, Olimpia and Stanica’s baby, Aurel Rațiu, dies, and his father astonished publics in the newspaper the death, announcing all their relatives, in wish to obtain as much financial help as possible. Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: Costache is very wealthy and knows that his relatives are trying to get their hands on his fortune, but is easily influenced by them (to the point of ridiculousness). Karma Houdini: Stănică Rațiu manages to steal the money hidden under Costache Giurgiuveanu's mattress, which causes the latter to die of a heart attack.Because of this, she lashes out continuously at the youthful, beautiful, educated and desirable Otilia, either directly or by badmouthing her to anyone who will listen. She is studying piano at the Conservatory However, she is also flighty, likes expensive things and can be somewhat snobbish. At first, after a light crisis, the Tulea family ignores Simion’s behavior, which started to go crazy. The action centers around Felix Sima, a student at the University of Medicine who comes to Bucharest to live under the guardianship of his uncle, Costache Giurgiuveanu.

Stănică is a complete jerkass who gives the reader a new reason to hate him with every scene he appears in, but it seems like he truly loves his family when he goes to visit his aging aunt for her birthday. Costache becomes more and more scared of death, Stanica being a cause of it, thanks to his constant stories about tragedies. He will try later with Georgeta, a woman with whom Felix has a brief fling while Otilia is in Paris. George Calinescu was a Romanian novelist, critic, historian, academic, and journalist, whose work tends to be humanist and realist.Desfasurarea epica este lenta, conflictul este determinat de incercarile membrilor clanului Tulea de a pune mina pe averea lui Costache Giurgiuveanu. He focuses on his studies despite of being heartbroken and, eventually, he succeeds in being a successful doctor. He advises Costache to adopt Otilia so she can be his inheritor and not end up thrown out of the house by the Tuleas after Costache's death. It's a high end, ultracentral street in Paris, very close to the Opera, meaning that she is most likely enjoying luxurious accommodations. Laser-Guided Karma: After all their machinations and efforts, the Tulea family doesn't get the bulk of Costache's fortune.
