About this deal

Feeling things between fingers is an important sensation for little ones, building on fine motor skills and getting to know what noise each texture can bring, e.

Thankfully they immediately recognised that I had created a farm and they were keen to get on and play. Focusing on endangered animals was really nice as we were able to have some lovely learning conversations about what endangered means and other areas of conservation. My first tray was my farm yard one and so many people liked it and made comments about it that I thought I would start my own page on Facebook to share more of my Tuff Tray set ups. I have found that setting up my Tuff Tray with fun toddler sensory play activities, like these messy farm animal play ideas, has been great for getting my kids happily playing independently while I grab a much-needed cuppa! We took mud from the garden and some leaves and sticks we collected on a walk and added them to the tray. Whether it's travel, food, lifestyle or just a healthy dose of parenting reality, there's something for everyone here.

Here I share about our Home Ed journey, days out, books and activities and well as my quest to stay sane by running and hitting the gym! They then set about with the various tools I’d left for them pouring and moving the different things around the tray. If you want another theme, try the sea related ideas or these minibeast-themed ideas for activity trays. Again, there is lots of learning potential behind this tray including motor movements, mark-making and imagination play.To make the tuff tray, cotton wool was used for the cloud, blue-dyed pasta for the rain, sweet corn for the sun and golden cake decorations for the sun rays, a mix of quinoa, rice and pasta dyed green for the grass, sand to represent the beach and a little beach hut made out of wooden pegs and large gems. What I am trying to say is that this may just seem like a fun thing to play with but it is also a great learning aid! To begin with I just enjoyed watching them play freely without any direction or questioning from me. Since becoming a childminder, I have learned more and more about the value of messy activities and how much toddlers learn through these types of activities.
