About this deal

The raucous 'Fill My Cup' is a track that sounds very likely to have come from the Abbey Road sessions, full of off-kilter 'White Album'-like piano, strong deep Southern flavours and the occasional manic outburst.

Someday' moves into lo-fi funk-folk, and hip hop beats to fuel the very odd and very impressive electronic blues oddity 'Summer', another cut from the archive that would've made 'Liquid Skin' a more diverse collection. Welcome to the October 2018 edition of our monthly new music playlist, which is available to listen to and watch via YouTube. The material on the second CD varies on quality, completely excluding the B sides from the album's three singles in favour of stripped-down doodles like 'High On Liquid Skin', and an inferior recording of 'We Haven't Turned Around', minus the stunning cello. Take a look at their streaming stats on Spotify, YouTube or any of those services; they're strong, but they're far from outstanding.PopMatters editor Sarah Zupko wrote that band had "picked up a few new studio tricks or two and rounded out their sound with fuller textures and better-produced mixes". Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary. The band also tour Australia and New Zealand later in the year, and will perform both Bring It On and Liquid Skin in their entirety at both the Auckland and Brisbane shows.

Mercury prize winning, British band Gomez have announced the 20th anniversary release of their second album Liquid Skin. Topped by some wondrous, sparse touches of cello, 'We Haven't Turned Around' is anthemic balladry done the Gomez way; understated, soulful and with a distinctive hint of earthy funk. There's an air of "having a laugh" that makes Gomez sometimes seem invitingly punchable, but all the same, it would be churlish to deny Liquid Skin praise for its joyfully lackadasical approach to rootsy excavation. His enormous vocal kicks in at the same time as the band – a mammoth sonic explosion – and it's all on for young and old. As it blinks back into the light, “Someday” serves as a fascinating insight into a gradually evolving band. Huge in America they don't tour the UK that much but when they do the 'SOLD OUT' signs are quickly posted.
