Each time you add an icon without a cross to your sheet, you get to fill in a square in the spellbook that corresponds to that symbol. You may just end up with a mess of holes on your sheet that the dice gods never see fit for you to fill.

In fact, I think it’s best with just two because you use both of your kings which leads to greater strategy and control.

They can allow you to use dice that you ordinarily could not place, and to squeeze out extra scoring opportunities.

We’ve been playing a lot of the more complex variety lately and I truly found this refreshing in a way I didn’t realize I needed. This expansion adds new dominoes, new giant tokens, new challenge tiles, and additional components to allow a fifth player to join the game. These coat of arms “dominoes” will then be drawn onto your player sheet, representing different domains. I wasn't expecting much from Kingdomino Duel, I certainly wasn't expecting something that was so easy to learn as well as teach.They’re not incredibly useful on their own, but they’re a quick way to make a very small Territory that’s worth a very large number of points. The original Kingdomino was a huge hit in our household, and is one of those games that gained a coveted position away from my collection of heavier games such as Dinogenics, Root and Scythe, and earned a special place next to Super Rhino Hero Battle and Gonuts For Donuts in the cupboard in the lounge. Everything is done very professionally with this company and always lets you know every step of the process.If you just leave them to their own devices they may end up in a place that’s much farther ahead than you. The rules are clear and concise, but like I said previously, you will have a better grasp of the concept if you have played Kingdomino. Without doubt it is a good game, but for me it is in the shadows of its most excellent predecessor Kingdomino. Still, there may be a place in your collection for Duel, or even both, so let’s start with the good things about Duel.

The special abilities exist to give you a way to break the rules and to slightly mitigate the luck inherent in dice rolling. Or you may get the icons you need but none of them ever turn up with crosses, meaning you end the game with a huge domain that scores you nothing. If you’re looking for a great two player game that is enjoyable to play with just about anyone, this could be the one! The game ends when either: At least one player fills in the last remaining empty spot on his/her map, or when neither player can place his/her domino this turn. The game ends when either at least one player has filled in all the spaces in their kingdom or neither player is able to record the dice result on their turn.
