About this deal

We've assembled a few of our favorite articles, tutorials, explainers, and guides to help beginners get started with photography and level up to advanced concepts.

While it's disappointing that Nikon hasn't found a solution for autofocus with AF-D and AF lenses, the most recent AF-D lens was released in (checks notes) 2000. In the 1987 Canon introduced the EF mount and abandoned the FD lens mount - no backward compatible nothing zilch - not even an attempt - their way or highway and then they introduced the EF-S lens mount - not compatible with full frame cameras, EF-M for mirrorless and the latest R mount. And here's why – notice how my fingers can grab the vertical grip of the Z9, with the FTZ II attached? In this context, the FTZII seems to be just a foot-removing motor swap on the FTZ rather than the LA-EA5-ish adapter Nikon should really be offering. I have seen a slight uptick in AF accuracy with a high quality large aperture Nikkor such as the 105mm f/1.

I can't believe you're still arguing that Nikon is a failure because in 1986 they "didn't have a design strategy" for digital technologies that didn't even exist yet (because of a AF system you yourself say they shouldn't have supported). There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data. Is the extra optical oomph worth the upgrade over the iPhone 15 Pro’s 3x (77mm equivalent) telephoto? It's only the latest adapter in a row of three which exclusively works on the latest cameras for now (there has been word about possible firmware updates in the future).

Those "gotchas" aren't really significant, and mostly involve Nikon's backwards compatibility with pre-electronic lenses. By removing the mechanical shutter, the Z 9 can also operate completely silently and there is no worry over mechanical shutter wear or breakdown. The Sony a9 III is the world's first full-frame mirrorless camera to feature a global electronic shutter with simultaneous readout. If they had a clear strategy for their electronic mount, they would have 100% compatibility right now, but they don't.This also explains why Nikon didn't release battery grips for the Z6/7, or equivalently why the original FTZ has the foot. How about concluding that you are just smarter and that we aren’t equipped to comprehend your superior truth? Thing is, the few Nikon lenses I own are exclusively AF and AF-D lenses, and I have no intention to sell or replace them.

They are only useful in AF-S mode… and manual focusing on a mirrorless is so easy to nail that the value of AF support is actually very limited.Nikon is one of the leading suppliers of products and solutions based on advanced opto-electronics and precision technologies. The camera will not recognize the new firmware if it is placed in a folder under the root directory. Still, Canon's completely incompatible break between FD and EF mounts was worse than anything Nikon ever did, and the same is true for the also completely incompatible break between Minolta's SR and A mounts which is Sony's legacy.
