She ends up reading, but then decides to drink wine and eventually pleasures herself, though she feels Nyktos’ presence in the shadows and hears his voice commanding her as she daydreams about what he would do to her while they are in bed together, before falling asleep. Ector tells him that he’s being an ass, and goes on a speech about how Sera has had their backs and carries the embers of life, which surprises Sera as she wasn’t sure where she stood with Ector. All this brings up the sad realisation from Sera that she will die no matter what, the future she had hoped for is gone and her death remains the only constant.

Nyktos also tells Sera that the Rot should disappear once the Embers of life are in him, which fills her with relief, because it means that there is a future for her realm/country. Ector interjects that she can fight, at which point Nyktos reminds him that this is the time for what they’ve discussed numerous times–Ector to shut the fuck up. She goes to the coronation in a horse drawn carriage, and the coronation goes without a hitch–beautiful, and easy. The next day, Sera is bored out of her mind and feeling restless, so she walks around the Castle with Saion, including eating breakfast at one of the rooms.I wonder what Ash would have thought or done knowing this information, it would confirm what he has felt and known for so long: She didn't value her life. They continue arguing, and Nyktos reveals that Hate and love are not two sides of the same coin–love comes from the soul, and hate is the product of the mind due to atrocities committed by others or by themselves. As in the From Blood and Ash series, there is quite a lot of smut, but contrary to the last 2 books of the FBAA series where it was just ridiculous at times how they couldn’t refrain from having sex in inappropriate moments, it’s not as bad in this book.

Sera and Nyktos are obviously attracted to each other and there is great sexual chemistry between them, but while they are horny for each other, they can remain levelheaded and don’t always think about having sex with each other, and I liked that about their couple.In the end, the embers would go to Nyktos because being the Primal of Life was his destiny and if it works, it would be his destiny again. he truly accepted her reasons why and understood where she was coming from and how desperate she must have been to want to fulfill the plan. Give me drama and trauma and I will sit here impatiently for the next book with anticipation and then greedily inhale it. Attes comes in and tells him that it could be possible–that it would be something that Eythos would do just to fuck with Kolis. I was apprehensive going into ASITE after reading TWOTQ (which I was not the biggest fan of), but I was proven wrong time and time again throughout this amazing book.

Nyktos has a plan, though, and as they work together, the last thing they need is the undeniable, scorching passion that continues to ignite between them.I know exactly how you feel about finishing books that you just cannot put down when you get caught up in them, and so you go to bed late even if you have to wake up early because of just how good it is!

She adds that Nyktos is special to them, but that Sera is also special because she is life, and it’s the only reason she breathes.It's so obvious how the deal they made ''pleasure for the sake of pleasure'' is definitely not at all about that but something more. He has his issues and worries, and it’s not all about Sera, there are also moments about him and his problems, and he has his character arc. She claims that he’s the one that’s committing misdeeds, and Nyktos tells her he’s curious how she’s going to rationalize this. Nyktos tells Ector that Sera was attempting to make her way to Dalos to kill Kolis, and then Nyktos takes her to his room and tells her that she’s going to be sleeping within arms length of him. She is still strong and determined to do whatever it takes to help the mortal realm, and also the Shadowlands because she came to care for the people she met there.
