About this deal

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Again, the higher impedance leaves you a bit limited on where, when, and how you can use the DT 990 PRO, but if that doesn’t bother you, go for it.

I don't know how they will work as mixing headphones (I'm still on holiday and too lazy to check) but I can already feel that a correction curve will be necessary to at least attenuate a bit of high frequencies. I do not like the way that metal brackets on both sides are attached to the head band (Mechatronics engineer's inner voice says - FLIMSAAY! beyerdynamic's most popular products traditionally include headphones and microphones for both live and studio use, and the company also has a strong presence in the consumer and conference technology sectors as well as in the field of installation microphones, interpreter consoles, and tour guide systems. As goes the 770s, I’d say that their bass - in terms of weight - lies in the middle here, it is perfectly good but it is neither as accurate as on the 880s and 990s nor as pleasurable as on the Amirons. The velour padding also happens to be great for listeners with glasses because the material leaves minimal gaps around the frames of glasses. The level of detail and sense of space and stereo imaging is great, and it really spreads the sound and presents each sample in full detail. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item.

My o2 amp really got the Senns working as well as my old Hi Fi seperates used to, but they lacked impact in the bass, and always were a little dull sounding in the top ranges (the infamous Sennheiser veil at play! However after actually using the headphones, the coiled cable is actually better for me than having nearly 3 meters of cable hanging on the floor in front of my computer, where I sit when listening to music. High sound pressure level capability, excellent isolation from ambient noise, and comfort over long periods. This thing is so bright that it brought high frequencies resonances that I did not even think were in the music!

These are a studio staple together with the 770s because they offer a fairly honest representation of the music and they are strong enough to take abuse, bending etc. It may be that those who think they lack bass are listening to these headphones without suitable amplification. By comparison they are a real bargain and, I think, in absolute terms they are quite simply one of the best bargains there is on the headphone market. The DT 990 does have a better mechanicle noise canceling, meaning it's stopping the outside noices due it's speakers casing.

So, just to set the scene, the 990's are connected to my computer via an Objective2 headphone amp, with built-in ODAC, connected to the computer using USB. I equalised the volume to the best of my perception and the DT 990s wiped the the floor with the competition. I compared them directly to Custom One Pros, Marshall Major and K-701 all four driven from the same source - Komplete 2 + HA4.While the 990's are really similar, they are tighter on the ears, and I don't like that at all, but they are still quite comfortable. I swept the headphone and manually dialed in EQ settings and iterated to get rid of the peaking in three high frequency bands. They are quite difficult to power, so if you're considering a pair of these you will also want to factor into account the need for a headphone amplifier.
