About this deal

This definitive collection, featuring fresh and exclusive 4K restorations by Arrow Video from the best available film materials, hours of brand new bonus features and previously unreleased footage - including the extended Mandarin Cut of The Big Boss, now ten minutes longer than any version ever released on video worldwide, and the never-before-seen 'log fight' from the original Game of Death shoot - is the ultimate tribute to Bruce Lee's enduring legacy and fruitful collaboration with Golden Harvest.

Like the others above, fans have their pick of three DTS-HD MA mono offerings, and the Mandarin option takes the top choice, delivering excellent, well-prioritized dialogue with a good low-end that adds a satisfying weight to the action and music. However taken on its own and my own hazy memories of half watched TV and VHS showings in my youth, this set presents some truly exceptional restoration work on some very sub-optimal source material. It's still very rough round the edges and its use of the Lee footage (again including some from his actual funeral) still feels somewhat inexcusable these days, but with more of itself able to be crafted round it, it delivers a much more satisfying albeit insane ‘film’ experience. But sadly, he never got that chance, passing away on July 20 th 1973 at the age of just 32, with only 100 minutes of film shot for its final act, most of which were then promptly lost by the production company. The palette also enjoys a welcomed boost as colors, like the green in the foliage or Lee's iconic yellow jumpsuit, are more accurately rendered and well-saturated, and skin tones appear natural while revealing pores and minor blemishes.

Granted, the ADR work for Billy Lo can be terribly distracting and near laughable, but overall dialogue reproduction is nonetheless crystal clear and takes priority over the rest of the action. Coming from a new restoration and remaster of the original 35mm camera negatives, the classic martial arts actioner delivers justice on Ultra HD with an exceptional HEVC H.Bruce Lee at Golden harvest ' really does look to have the definitive versions of ' Bruce's ' films in terms of versions and picture/ sound quality. Fist of Fury (1972) takes a similar narrative but amps up both the revenge and the political angles, introducing the overt racial tension between China and Japan during the early 1900s. Lee’s fighting remains insanely powerful, a master of efficiency as well as power and staggeringly controlled aggression. The video essay also explains Lee’s personal mixed martial arts form and philosophy of Jeet Kune Do.
