About this deal

is another very strong song that has a bit of the electronic ambience of Standing on the Shoulder of Giants - though better written - combined with the trademark acoustic strum of Oasis (a bit like Wonderwall). The album includes the singles 'Pretty Boy' and 'Easy Now', plus an album version of the previously released demo 'We're Gonna Get There in The End' as a bonus track. Council Skies takes its title from a book by revered northern illustrator and friend of Noel, artist Pete McKee. Although perhaps Council Skies needed a couple more overtly adventurous tracks like Pretty Boy to be absolutely perfect - though all the arrangements/production on the other songs are gorgeously deep and detailed - this is still an excellent new album from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. There are some strong songs on “Council Skies”, but it's all pretty much what would be expected from one of Noel’s solo offerings.

Barry says: There's no arguing that while the Gallagher popularity preference has shifted a little more recently towards Liam, it was older brother Noel's post-Oasis work that was the most refined, with the High Flying Birds hitting the perfect balance of melody and thoughtful songwriting. It was not ground-breaking, but the HFB debut had some brilliant songs and was a very good introduction.Noel Gallagher is friends with Bono and Council Skies is like a superior equivalent to U2's All That You Can't Leave Behind (which was for the most part too poppy) in that it is more back to first principles but aspects of the more "far out there" sonic soundscapes remain as the instrumentation is so numerous and rich.

Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. I'm Not Giving Up Tonight is the rousing beginning the album needs while Think of a Number is a good, thoughtful and epic way for the album to finish. It is the most Oasis-like of the whole record, will surely please gig-goers who prefer the old material and bridges Noel Gallagher's most famous band with the High Flying Birds’ first album. Production is fairly typical of Noel it’s not an audiophile grade recording, but it’s ok and much better than his David Holmes produced album WBTM. However, on 2015's Chasing Yesterday Noel Gallagher started to mix some of the old Oasis sound with some sonic experimentation and it made the songs really shine in an excellent album.Added bonus is that Mind Games which is a Lennon cover is very well done and We’re Going To Get There In The End which was previously just a demo is here on the Deluxe and thankfully Noel hasn’t messed with the track too much from the demo with just a bit of brass here and there and some echo on his vocals and extra backing vocals, but otherwise it’s much the same formula if you liked that demo track. There are four instrumental version of song from the album, it’s always interesting to hear tracks without the vocals, but it’s only really works with iconic songs. Council Skies’ is the highly anticipated fourth studio album from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Deluxe 2CD with bonus disc including previously unreleased live sessions, instrumentals, and remixes.

Overall it’s better than Who Built The Moon by a long stretch in my opinion, but I don’t know if I’ll be going back to this album over and over like I did (and still do) with his first two solo albums. Council Skies' is the perfect illustration of Noel's sound, beautifully produced and nicely presented INCLUDING bonus 7". Although slightly more experimentation would be pleasing next time, this is a truly really strong set of tunes - tracks 2-7 are especially magical - and the most complete album of Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds discography. Council Skies’ is the highly anticipated fourth studio album from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds released on 2nd June 2023. The 21st century Oasis efforts were patchy in greatness, but the first HFB album included a lot of the really good leftovers that were either going to be on a future Oasis record if there had not been a row or maybe did not fit the sound and were more suitable as a solo tracks.

From the evocative album title to the cover art, to the lyrics themselves, Council Skies sees Noel Gallagher reclaiming his past and paying homage to his Mancunian roots. Council Skies' is the highly anticipated fourth studio album from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. In a recent media interview, Noel Gallagher stated that he wished the David Bowie-like (similar chords to Ashes to Ashes) closer Think of a Number had been the first track and the opener the last instead, but the current selection is spot on. Speaking of those two tracks the Deluxe version of the album is worth having just for the remixes of those two.
