Still, both Demie and Collins tried to steer clear of anything too specific or literal in their interpretations, describing the main impetus for the project as simply an opportunity to build their own weird and wonderful folkloric world—and, as Demie already noted, just to have some fun. You approach them with innocence, and you revisit them as an adult and realize there’s more going on.

Indeed, the interplay of text and images throughout the book has less in common with engravings from a well-thumbed tome of old fairy tales than with something like Madonna’s infamous Fabien Baron–designed, Steven Meisel–lensed publication, Sex.The photographs, are stunning, magical, and transmit an aura that, for me, would make this book 5 stars.

I absolutely loved the artistic direction, set design, alexa’s modeling, and of course the graphic design. One photo shoot and a pair of prosthetic elf ears later, the pair decided to push the project further, eventually crafting nine individual fables with a touch of something both sinister and seductive.
