About this deal

This makes the Zero's bass sound inflated and slightly dampened for a sense of leading slam; it's a more impactful bass response where it sounds like air is being pushed. With TRUTHEAR x Crinacle Zero:Red you receive 6 pair of silicone tips (3 pairs have a wider nozzle than the other 3 pairs) and a pair made of memory foam. TRUTHEAR not only pursues excellent objective measurements, but also attaches great importance to the optimization and improvement of processing technology; The cavity of ZERO:RED is still a sandwich-like structure (front cavity, decorative panel, and a few drops of glue to fill the seams).

They mention that it's a great product, excellent sound quality, and that it blocks out a lot of sound. I did find the sound a bit closed so I dialed in a low Q (2) 1 to 2 dB gain filter centered at 3 kHz. I paired the Truthear x Crinacle ZERO with many of the tested portable DAC/amps to date and personally like the cleaner profile and handy EQ options of the Qudelix-5K. The RED’s textured bass and tightly controlled treble response elevates its sound beyond seemingly similar IEMs. Vocals feel a bit grating, and overall are not pleasant to listen to, there is no reserved feeling, only aggression.

After extensive A/B comparison between the original Samsung audio dongle and DragonFly Red headphone DAC/amp, we haven’t noticed any significant difference in performance. The dual-driver design has one driver dedicated just to bass, so this range has plenty of boom and slam - a great match for electronic, hip-hop, and beat-heavy music.

They also struggle to passively isolate you from low-frequency noise like the low rumble of car engines. Anyone who wants to chill and enjoy a neutral sound signature should consider putting these on their “IEM suggestions” list. Regardless of which tips you pick, the next step is to connect the cable by carefully identifying the matching channels and orienting the ear hooks around your ear when connecting the IEMs. Then we get to the pre-formed ear hooks and the only issue I have with the cable whereby it's too firm and aggressively curved. But the Zero's bass is more focused, impactful and the general frequency response is more palatable.

Nurse’s steps in “Simulation” by Avenged Sevenfold aren’t pinpoint accurate but good enough to feel immersed in a song. For those with smaller ear canals, these might be problematic (and anything else with larger nozzles, such as the Blessing series). And for a sneak peek at some of the upcoming work we’re doing at the blog, try out this interactive graph tool of Resolve’s measurements with the RED. It’s a bit of a philosophical question: Do you want an accurate listen, or one that is perhaps more colored but more personally enjoyable?

That color-alterating resin is always wonderful to look at, and the shells are overall quite light, with a slightly recessed 2-pin connector that might be polarizing, depending on opinion. Branding comes in the form of the Truthear printed on the upper side and this is not really visible in use. The TRUTHEAR x Crinacle ZERO and the MOONDROP Aria are both wired audiophile IEMs that are good for neutral sound. If you really want to add some clarity, you can slightly boost the 4kHz region and see if that works for you.

You want this IEM so you know what correct tonality is, when you listen with other transducers such as headphones and speakers. Equipped with a silver plated copper cable with a thicker single strand diameter providing an exceptional lens indicator. Moondrop Chu: I can definitely see listeners who want a leaner and brighter sound preferring the Chu; however, I'm much more of the bass-y and exciting persuasion. The “shoelace” was chosen in the end because it was easier to manufacture as it was 3D printed with a resin fill on tip.

They feature a detachable, braided audio cable, meaning you can swap them out based on your preferences. Though I started this hobby seeking the former, I’ve grown inclined towards the latter (within reason of course). I cranked up the volume on it and it kind of gets loud but I thought the bass started to gradually get distorted. Of course, that happens in the 8kHz region, which doesn’t help much in real-world situations, but still. I think the main difference, to me, is that the KXXS' tuning is just a bit more refined here and there. If you'd like to learn more about my listening methodology, test tracks, and general beliefs in audio, then I would encourage you to check out this page. There’s little space for treble notes to breathe, for the hats and cymbals to shimmer and shine past the crisp initial attack. After all, trying out new gear yourself to deepen your understanding of audio and enjoyment of music is the whole point of this hobby. While its smaller staging could be improved, I don’t think it detracts too much from the sound and its coherency and articulation more than makes up the difference.
