About this deal

What I loved about this as a recovering Friendaholic myself is Elizabeth’s vulnerability and openness as she looks at why some of her deepest friendships didn’t work out, as well as why he best friendship with Emma has (and thank goodness- she seems amazing). Yet we rarely stop to examine those hurts and joys; family and romance take up all the air in the proverbial room. Academic and scientific lines of reasoning are used in this book to provide a bit of starch to an otherwise completely subjective book.

Ultimately, like Elizabeth, friends are utterly integral to my life and to read such a positive book celebrating that platonic love was heart warming. If you have more than seven then you are likely to suffer exhaustion from trying to juggle everyone’s needs.

She describes a physical and emotional dependence so strong that it had her pursuing platonic relationships to the point of damaging her own physical and psychological health. What's less fascinating to me is Day's hand wringing about what text message she should send a shitty friend who she doesn't really like.

Misschien omdat ik precies het tegenovergestelde ben maar girly je kan gewoon nee zeggen tegen mensen en grenzen stellen? Then, when a global pandemic hit in 2020, she was one of many who were forced to reassess what friendship really meant to them – with the crisis came a dawning her truest friends were not always the ones she had been spending most time with.Based on the number of times I had to pause because of the tears streaming from my eyes, I think it must be. I really want to say that reading Elizabeth Day feels like listening to a friend, but it's complicated by the fact that I’m an actual friend who makes an appearance in this book on friendship. I really enjoyed reading this, but I found the point or anecdote was often lost in a seemingly pointless side story or fact or lengthy metaphor.
