About this deal

You don’t get heaps of control, but it’s capable of producing good shots when the conditions are right. These days, modern high-end smartphones can outperform cameras like this when they’re able to be used side by side. There's a small playback button to view your images and a 4-way controller which also allows quick access to a function of your choice, flash settings, self timer settings, exposure compensation and the ability to delete images.

If you’re on the lookout for an affordable holiday or day trip camera that can withstand some abuse, then the XP140 makes a compelling argument for a spot in your rucksack. The Finepix XP140 is a chip off the old block – near identical to its predecessor and the XP120 before that. It can now go even deeper than before, to an impressive 25 metres, while other improvements include a new scene recognition mode, which should make it better able to assess what it’s photographing, and 4K video recording (albeit at 15fps). It rarely succeeds in transferring photos without some kind of human intervention and even then isn’t always successful. While most of us probably won’t venture further than the deep end of the swimming pool, for those who like scuba diving and similar, having those kinds of depths available is really useful. The Fujifilm FinePix XP140 is a water, freeze, shock and dust proof compact camera with a 5x zoom lens, 16. The widest setting is a useful 28mm equivalent, progressing to 140mm, fittingly enough, at the telephoto end. In addition to the durable design and build, the XP140 has a FUJINON lens that boasts the company's unique colour reproduction technology and uses a 16.

Monochrome (NIR) – one of the new modes – apes the ethereal black and white look of an image taken with an infrared camera, while there are several 'partial colour' settings that pick out, say, the red or orange in a scene and leave the rest in black and white to subject highlight effect (as long as said subject is orange or red, for example).Launched at the beginning of 2019, the XP140 is Fujifilm’s regular annual update to its XP waterproof model, the XP130 was released a year earlier and the XP120 in early 2017. It's available in yellow or white with a black outline, or black with a green, blue or silver outline. Everything is very ergonomic although those with larger hands may find the buttons fiddly, especially zoom in/out buttons.

The Fujifilm XP140 is a compact, tough model with a 16-megapixel BSI-CMOS sensor and 5x optical zoom. the Fujifilm FinePix XP140's flash produces noticeable vignetting with the lens at maximum wide angle, though fall-off is much less severe when you use longer focal lengths. Its picture quality is good, albeit not as good as the more expensive Olympus TOUGH TG-6, and it has a wide range of video modes – though its new 4K/15p mode is a bit of a let down.A half squeeze of the shutter release and a central AF box illuminates in green with an added beep of affirmation to reassure the user that critical focus has been achieved (subject to the effects of camera shake/hand wobble at the point of actually fully squeezing the trigger, of course). Do this and a 'Fine' quality setting Large JPEG – the top setting – image is committed to memory in an instant.
