Our Victoriana single malt pays homage to our distilling craft which dates back decades, as a modern interpretation of a classic Victorian style Campbeltown single malt. Initially it is all creme caramel, caramelised fruit sugars, wood sugar, toffee and fudge before some apple and peach come through. Added to this is a distinct fresh woodsy tang from bourbon barrels, and a definite cocoa-y sweetness from the sherry casks too, especially noticeable on the finish. Since then it has changed hands several times,including a spell of ownership in the 1950s by Hiram Walker (who also owned Scapa). The lightly peated single malt has been matured exclusively in first fill bourbon casks, so there's a good dose of toffee among the more savoury seaside notes. Sweet start and quite fat and though the alcohol gives a little tongue-tingling buzz the result is a good mid-palate weight. Matured in a combination of first and second fill bourbon barrels, then finished in PX and heavily charred oak casks, providing a rich layer of flavours.A dram of Glen Scotia single malt is a window through time to a traditional Campbeltown signature whisky. Glen Scotia strives to keep the spirit of Campbeltown alive, sending our whiskies across the world while staying true to the classic Campbeltown Malt Whisky style.The Oloroso sherry finish adds perfumed floral notes, creating a delicately aromatic dram while preserving the signature distillery character of rich fruits, hints of Atlantic sea spray, and subtle maritime nuances. Production at Glen Scotia was sporadic during the post-war decades, with periods of closure and part-time operation, but in March 2014 the distillery was bought by a team of experienced distillers, backed by a leading private equity company, trading as the Loch Lomond Group Ltd. Twice in 2021 Glen Scotia was recognised for its whisky-making abilities, being named the Scottish Whisky Distillery of the Year at the Scottish Whisky Awards, just seven months after being crowned the ‘Best in Show’ at this year’s San Francisco World Spirits Competition for our Glen Scotia 25-Year-Old expression. Introducing the new Icons of Campbeltown series: a celebration of the Campbeltown community that ensured Glen Scotia prevailed through history.
