Today we get the present and birthday cake from Hagrid to Harry, when he delivers his acceptance letter after the family goes into hiding. There are 6 minifigures – Harry Potter, Ron Weasley™, Hermione Granger™, Draco Malfoy™, Dudley Dursley and Griphook – plus exciting items and enchanting accessories from the Harry Potter movies. It’s a pretty plain build for the calendar, with the spellbook just having a plain tile on the inside, but I do like the wand, which comes in its own wand case – a new element first introduced in 75978 Diagon Alley. Following on from Harry’s journey into Gringotts, we arrive at the vaults, containing Harry’s inheritance left to him by his late parents.

Kids can recreate the Hogwarts letters arriving through the fireplace, collecting gold from Gringotts’ vault, meeting Hedwig the owl and more! Day 6 gives us another minifigure, and an excellent one at that – with Dudley Dursley, in his striped pyjamas. A pretty fun gimmick, and I like that there’s some innovation in the advent calendar, and this should hopefully be very playable for families! And that’s it for Day 13 – we’ve spent a lot of time in the Gringotts phase of Harry’s journey, and I wonder if we’ll explore something else for Day 14 tomorrow! As always, the instruction of each day’s builds are printed on the inside of the doors, so be careful and try not to rip them out!This calendar included two cookies (12 Dec), four tiles with the Hogwarts house crests (20 Dec), two envelopes (22 Dec) and as a special treat on 24 December: A 2×3 tile printed as Hogwarts acceptance letter, as well as 1×2 tiles with Wingardium Leviosa spell and a chocolate bar print. You can get in to the calendar to see the pieces if you’re impatient and want to look at the mini sets before you start opening the doors in December – the end of the box is held shut with tape rather than being one of the Lego boxes that you have to rip in to to open, so the contents can be accessed without outright destruction.
Here’s a look at the back printing, and the alternate face which has a shocked expression on its face. That said, it looks much better once you load it up with Hedwig, a chocolate frog and some spellbooks! I initially had the same problem with the spinner (when it lands, two numbers face upwards), but I fixed it by separating the two circular pieces and putting them back together with the top one turned 45-degrees.The 24 gifts found within this special holiday calendar combine easily with all other LEGO Harry Potter sets for endless creative building, imaginative play and impressive displays. This year, I’ll be counting down the Star Wars (of course), Harry Potter, Guardians of the Galaxy and Friends calendars, so the same setup as last year! Unfortunately, his legs aren’t printed which is a bummer, but at this stage, LEGO doesn’t really do printing on short legs. Decked out in almost as many twinkling lights and wreaths as Hogwarts Castle, the location oozes wintery charm. Nothing too fancy here, and it’s a break from the tradition of getting a Harry Potter minifigure on Day 1’s window like previous years.
