About this deal

In fact, he was a little timid and worried a lot--and what worried him the most was going to sea for the very first time. Featuring the beloved main character from the celebrated How to Train Your Dragon series, here's an exciting adventure that shows what it really means to be brave.

At first I thought what are the odds that there is another Viking kid with the name of Hiccup who is afraid only to realise at the end of the book that this is the same Hiccup that the movie is based on. We both love love Cressida Cowell's adorable illustrations, and while I appreciate the story as Hiccup's first step to a greater destiny of being able to overcome fear to do what must be done, my son just likes a little boy like him who is brave, and the hero of the story. However, I wish that the book showed more of an internal struggle or hero-moment when Hiccup makes the decision to take charge. It was later published in the United States in 2014 under the title How to Be a Viking, by Little, Brown and Company. Beautiful, washed illustrations capture the emotion and adventure of the high seas with a softness that will appeal to children and parents, while the bold text tells a remarkable tale that will capture imaginations and drive young readers wild with delight. It tells the story of Hiccup's childhood and if you read it then you will probably understand the How To Train Your Dragon series a little but more.

An enjoyable book pitched at a much younger audience than ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ but with the same feel.

Cressida Cowell grew up in London and on a small, uninhabited island off the west coast of Scotland.
