About this deal

Imagine having three life-coaches who had been through the toughest mental and physical challenges; a crack team of problem-solvers who knew in their day job that one mistake could be the difference between life - and death. Enjoyed all of Peter's books so far, easy to read and a peek behind the curtain of such a vast world that everyone thinks they know already. Titled The Troubled, Crouch explores the darker side of retirement and reflects on those whose paths in and beyond football have been more problematic. A resolve to be a giant among men, to conquer, plunder and seize the greatness that he thinks is his right.

The audiobook reflects Rhonda’s own journey and shares the most direct way out for those experiencing hardship and the path to end pain and suffering endured by so many, and it shines a light on a future without anxiety or fear. Across 16 Chapters and 275 Pages, Peter Crouch builds the reader a picture of the character that he has come to know through tales from throughout his career, or his perception and experience from afar for others, during their “main and more famous career” of being a footballer. I found it incredibly interesting listening to all the stories of what former players from different eras have got up to post football.

It’s still good, but gets confusing when he’s reciting a conversation (in the first person) with another ex-pro, whilst referring to himself as Peter Crouch. For every successful pundit, there’s a footballer struggling to adjust to life; and while some may find a new lease in becoming a painter, a detective or an MP, the path for others isn’t quite so rewarding. For Arthur Dent, who has only just had his house demolished that morning, this seems already to be more than he can cope with. New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter. So that’s a hat-trick for a England and a hat-trick of books to his name, surely placing the former forward in a league of his own as the only person to have achieved a triumvirate in both fields?

It is a cautionary tale of the pitfalls of life after the final whistle when the ridiculous amounts of money disappear as quickly as the chants from the adoring crowds. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. It is sobering to learn that ‘around 40% of ex players go bankrupt in the first 5 years after quitting, a 3rd get divorced. Random House presents the audiobook edition of Ikigai by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles, read by Noako Mori. This deeply personal and supportive series offers listeners an honest and relatable insight into how some the UK's best-known celebrities have coped with mental health difficulties, ranging from OCD to insomnia, addiction to grief, and depression to anxiety. He has clearly interviewed a number of former footballing pals and it comes across as an insightful read. In each episode you'll follow one person's journey, getting to listen in on their coaching sessions with Selina and following them as she sends them off on a task to try out a new career idea. Although it has to be said some sections are more entertaining than others, I didn’t find the chapters on politicians or owners held my interest as much as the ones on pundits, grafters or mavericks for example.

In the absolutely packed Act II, the dark fantasy resumes and the Sandman expands into the French Revolution, ancient Rome, 19th-century San Francisco, eighth-century Baghdad, and beyond. In The Coldest Case: A Black Book Audio Drama, homicide detective Billy Harney sends his new partner, Kate, deep undercover in a notorious Chicago drug ring.Do you feel weighed down by stress and pressure, held back by judgement and lack of opportunity, and critcised by everyone – including yourself? And also agree that it was difficult to determine which bits were Crouchy and which bits were those he had written about. There's a reason We Are Legion was named Audible's Best Science Fiction Book of 2016: Its irresistibly irreverent wit! However, there’s also a more serious undercurrent to the book, which Crouch touches on in his final chapter. I listened to the penguin audio version of this book and wasn’t as impressed with the presentation of that.

One Thursday lunchtime the Earth gets unexpectedly demolished to make way for a new hyperspace bypass. It is disappointing to find that Peter only narrates the prologue, it would’ve been nice the hear him tell all the stories. This grossly oversimplified understanding has created many complexities in our lives and taken away from us the very fundamentals of the joy of living. From managers to pundits, artists to actors, restaurateurs to teachers, the book concentrates on a number of different professions, with Crouch identifying some of the former players now plying their very different trades and discussing some of these careers with the players themselves, including Gavin Peacock who swapped the penalty box for the pulpit as a priest and Jody Craddock who put down his shinpads and picked up a paintbrush for a successful career as an artist. Just as there are books being written to be turned into screenplays, there are definitely books that are written to be listened to as opposed to read.
