About this deal

There were certain people I disliked from the start and never grew to love, some who surprised me along the way, and others I can't wait to see more of in the coming books.

Recently, I joined the ranks of millions of women that reached the end of Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. Besides pushing some people away, it attracts equivocal comparisons that can lead to equally unfair expectations. Her simple role as teacher pf the village children is complicated by her burgeoning feminist leanings, conflicts with slave owners, and increasing “entanglement” with the mysterious Nathaniel Bonner.

Elizabeth’s emotions are constantly being described as ‘written across her face’, much as Claire’s often are. People said if you like Outlander then you'll like this, but I'm not sure why because it's totally different. To my utter delight, Into the Wilderness proved itself a most enjoyable read, containing all of the necessary ingredients required for a good historical fiction with romantic elements.

Addendum: when I went to find an image to go with this post, I discovered that there are more books about these characters — many. I wonder how many noticed that Claire and James Fraser (from the Outlander series) were mentioned in "Into the Wilderness" story. But with this journey a whole new world opens up to Nathaniel and Elizabeth–and a destiny they could never have imagined awaits them.

Epic in ambition, heaving-bosomed and lavish with pioneer life, Donati's debut inevitably invites comparison to the Revolutionary War-era romances of Diana Gabaldon. Financially strapped, Judge Middleton has plans for his daughter - betrothal to local doctor Richard Todd. After reading all the books, in a fashion to do any reading addict proud, I can report that this series is binge worthy and more than capable of helping you through your Outlander book withdrawal. I appreciate the nod to James Fennimore Cooper and the brief mention of characters from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander and for me Sara Donati's books outshine the latter considerably. I'm currently reading the fourth book "Fire Along the Sky" and on page 69 it says "Over the years three women had borne him eleven children, and five of those survived" - him being Nathaniel.Whatever happens, Martha and Daniel and all the Bonners must stand united against the threats to both heart and home. So go pick up a copy, download to the kindle, whatever way makes you happy, just READ it, it will help.
