My only criticism is that there are a few instances of curious things happening and these are never explained.

The Keeper Of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan starts by introducing the reader to elderly gentle man Anthony, a man living alone in a home he shared with his wife.As the end nears, he bequeaths his secret life’s mission to his unsuspecting assistant, Laura, leaving her his house and all its lost treasures, including an irritable ghost. I consider myself to be a modern woman —- I rarely tap into an appreciation for people’s sentimental tchotchkes. Over the years he has filled his drawers and shelves with fragments of other people’s lives, and somehow they had helped to mend his-so cruelly shattered-and make it whole again.

It was going well, but then in 2012 I got cancer, which was bloody inconvenient but precipitated an exciting hair journey from bald to a peroxide blonde Annie Lennox crop. That event has coloured and haunted his entire life, with guilt over a broken promise, a lost communion medal, and led to the enormous collection of lost items which he has found with the hope of reuniting them with their owners.

However, sometimes I got lost a bit in the switching of stories back and forth and wish I had the print. I would describe the novel as a modern day fairy tale in which fantastical events intertwine all of the characters and their fates. Add the ancillary characters who were only there to move the plot and by the time the ghost (yes, ghost) came in I was pretty much done. Her own success is an inspiration within itself, as this authoress was older when her first book was published.
