About this deal

Since they were first published, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings have been two books people have treasured. At Books2Door, we believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every child should have to help improve their vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills. In true movie fashion, the scary parts are scarier, the spiders bigger and uglier and the trolls more disgusting. Contrarily, those who have followed in his footsteps since have tended to be inspired by a desire to imitate him. The Two Towers was definitely my favourite in the series, it was the most exciting one and also allowed for much needed get-to-know-the-characters-time.

Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). The Lord of the Rings trilogy, a literary masterpiece, took me on an unforgettable quest to destroy the One Ring, Sauron’s malevolent creation.

Now, the new hardback editions of these beautifully illustrated works have been collected together into one boxed set of four books. Honestly, I'm still wondering where the hell I got the patience to sit down and read the whole thing.

One event after another, crisis after epic excitement, wonder at the enormity of the main character's daring and courage. Impossible to describe in a few words, JRR Tolkien’s great work of imaginative fiction has been labelled both a heroic romance and a classic fantasy fiction. Good will always win as long as there are good men and women willing to give of self for the better good. And of course Aragorn's there, right on the front cover, because we KNOW how much MR TOLKIEN LUUURVES him some Aragorn!

I really liked the illustrated one by Alan Lee but I thought of asking in this sub before just to see. Now, unlike his bestie Clive Staples Lewis, Tolkien was a perfectionist and took his sweet time writing his books. The writing style was magnificent, but the story-telling so lengthy at times I didn't know where to put my brainpower. But for all that The Lord of the Rings may be dull, affected, and moralistic, it is Tolkien's, through and through.

I think rather of the mysterious last petitions of the Lord's Prayer: Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,' Tolkien wrote in 1956. This new boxed set offers readers a new opportunity to discover Tolkien’s remarkable world of Middle-earth and to follow the complete story of Bilbo Baggins and the Hobbits’ part in the epic quest for the Ring. Coming to the end of LOTR feels like coming home to a comfortable chair, a warm mug of fine coffee, and a large slab of carrot cake with extra cream cheese frosting. Likewise, in a well-written story, side-characters should be kept to the minimum needed to move the plot and entertain the reader with a variety of personalities. More than 200 black-and-white and full-color illustrations make the pages a joy to behold as you learn all you’ll need to know about Tolkien’s fantasy realm. All he lacks in his plans for dominion is the One Ring – the ring that rules them all – which has fallen into the hands of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. If a refund is payable to you we will process the refund as soon as possible, and, in any case within fourteen (14) days. I love the Peter Jackson Hobbit movies, though even I think it was a stretch making three of them out of one little book. I knew going into reading there wasn't going to be a lot of Bilbo, but that didn't stop me from reading ahead occasionally to see when his name would pop up next.

To a Jesuit friend he wrote: 'The Lord of the Rings is of course a fundamentally religious and Catholic work; unconsciously at first, but consciously in the revision. In the final chapter or so, I'm not ashamed to admit that I found it difficult to hold back those bittersweet tears. R.Tolkien (1892-1973) was a distinguished academic, though he is best known for writing The Hobbit , The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion , plus other stories and essays. As this is my fourth or fifth read through of this book, I feel like I don't need to repeat myself and construct a long-winded review on how this is quite easily, my favourite set of books. The Eddas were long and convoluted because they drew from many different stories and accounts, combined over time by numerous story-tellers and eventually compiled by scribes.R. TOLKIEN (1892–1973) is the creator of Middle-earth and author of such classic and extraordinary works of fiction as The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion.
