This is a truly enlightening book about accepting individuality and a must have for any child’s bookshelf. I have heard a few of his female friends say he can’t like Frozen or ‘girly’ things so I was looking for a story to reinforce that he can like and be whatever he wants to. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Not sure I like the pink/blue dichotomy, because it did feel like it was reinforcing the gender binary and thus undermining the central thesis of the text.

I do feel, however, that the dual themes could be a little confusing as the main character has such a fully pink shadow. If a child wants to play with a doll or a truck it really shouldn't matter they should be allowed to explore and understand who they are without judgment. As the boy attends his first day of school, he decides to wear a dress because that is what his shadow likes, but as soon as he goes into class, he feels out of place. Finally, they are invited by the story’s character to help children starting school by creating a leaflet.The theme is really a dual one – one of accepting that people can live happily in their own shadow and also share interests that are not usually part of that shadow, and the other that there are those whose shadows may never match the gender assigned to them, and that is fine too. Inspired by the best-selling Melbourne author's own son, My Shadow is Pink is a beautifully written rhyming story of love and self-acceptance that touches on the subjects of gender identity, equality and diversity. My Shadow is Pink is a cute story about a little boy who finds that his shadow is not blue like other boys, but rather pink.

He wanted every available toy and costume; his most prized possession was an Elsa doll, which he took absolutely everywhere and proudly showed anyone and everyone.I do not think the book is stereotypical as it is very informative and states how children may feel and how their identity can be explained.
