About this deal

As they said goodbye, they promised to keep in touch and meet at the exact same place one year later. The Last Goodbye is her first novel written under the pen name of Fiona Lucas, but she’s been writing heartwarming love stories and feel-good women’s fiction as Fiona Harper for more than a decade. My favourite thing about Fiona Lucas’ writing was the way that she wrote the characters and their relationships. I was a little worried about how the book would end but it was definitely the ending I was hoping for.

TW - without giving too much away this book deals with domestic abuse and how it can come about subtly. It kept me on edge with every twist that pushed Lili and Ben apart through miscommunication/distance/memory loss. This book has me in a chokehold the entire time, I thought it was gonna be some kind of cutesy romance but it was so much more than that. Five years later, Ben still wonders how he got things so wrong - he let the love of his life slip between his fingers. The only clue to her past is the silver bee necklace she wears - the very same one Ben bought for Lili that magical summer's day.

When I turned the last page, I did not sigh with the joy of a widowed woman whose previously cracked heart has been healed by the caulk of romantic tears.I loved how well the timelines seamlessly flowed together and added an extra note of suspense to the story.

It was a very passionate book with intense emotions following Lili/Alice’s amnesia but the romance aspect was still very slow burn. You may want to read author’s content warning at the beginning since this is quite the emotional story that takes on heavy issues. But life is about to take them in different directions, and so they agree to meet next July, in the beautiful hidden garden where they first laid eyes on each other. The dual timelines and ‘multiple’ POVs work so well, taking away some of the heaviness that can come with this type of story – all in all it was extremely well written with dynamic and interesting characters, a well thought out plot and structure, it gave me all the feels and I highly recommend it! As prior noted very serious issues, including emotional and substance abuse, are covered in this story. I’ve got a workout done and nowI can spend all of the remainder of the day, sat on my backside, reading and having cwtches with my dogs. Of course when the year is up and they are supposed to meet again, things don’t go the way they’re supposed to and there are broken hearts on both sides. whatever story they just told was so boring nothing happened and you feel like u wasted your time just listening …you start questioning what else you’re doing wrong in your life.

And I’ve also read stories that were heartbreaking in a way that you can’t fathom how things can possibly work out for the character(s).Ben, a travel photographer is only around for a few hours before he needs to catch a flight from Heathrow.
