About this deal

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. As the renovations start on the dilapidated Spanish House Isabel faces one crisis after another but slowly we witness Isabel’s slow realisation that she has to behave like an adult and actually start looking after her children. For a woman who has lived a sheltered life as a classic violinist while her husband took care of the things in their everyday life, Isabel is thrown for a loop and for a while, is barely able to cope.

Even though the incompetencies of Isabel frustrated me a lot, I can resonate with her because her music is her only power and sometimes those artsy minds dedicated their souls to create new compositions and they slowly separate from the responsibilities and obligations of real life. I could visualise the ramshackle old house that she subsequently inherits at a totally desperate time of her life and, just when it seems nothing can possibly get worse, it does. This really is perfect holiday reading with the book moving along at a good pace with different strands of the story coming to a satisfactory conclusion although I don’t think this has the depth of her more recent novels. Später, so hatte ich den Eindruck, versuchte sich Jojo Moyes zu verändern, sowohl thematisch als auch im Schreibstil. I normally take to one or more of her characters, especially the main players, however, I didn't find this the case in this story.

Matt and his wife Laura are obsessed with the idea of owning Spanish House when its cantankerous and demanding owner Mr Pottisworth dies.

With the house falling down around them, and the last of her savings disappearing fast, Isabel turns to her neighbors for help, not knowing that her mere presence there has stirred up long-standing obsessions. Jojo did an excellent job of making me fall in love with Byron, from the start with his almost sullen silences to where he also finds his own strength. I didn't have any idea what the ending would be and was racing along to finish it so I could actually sleep tonight (being up until the wee small hours this morning and only putting my kindle down when I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer). The book follows the families as they struggle with their ideas of love and marriage, revenge, family life, and what it takes to make a house a home. Yes, this is the same Matt who desperately wants The Spanish House for himself and although he is instantly attracted to Isabel he is determined to sabotage the house (literally, with shoddy worksmanship) while charging her extortionate amounts for the privilege.Night Music' is a story about 'The Spanish House' - recently inherited by newly widowed Isabel and her two children. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The worst thing about Isabelle was the fact she chose to get married and have kids when she knew she couldn't ever love and support them how they needed.
