About this deal

It's another that could have come from the "White Album" as band mixes bucolic folk with a bit of blues before getting lost in a spell of extended what-does-that-knob-do twiddling but all the while remembering that they're a guitar-led rock band, it's at least as good a way to close the difficult second album as "Champagne Supernova" and that's saying something [and if anything here is close to mentor Paul Weller's solo sound then it's probably this track]. Recently on a lads'n'dads camping trip and safe to say all the dads welcomed this album being played and even some of the lads showed an interest, plenty of (bad) singing around the fire. In 2023 the band released a career-spanning box set entitled Yesterday, Today 1992–2018, which contained all their studio albums and 5 bonus CDs, totalling 230 tracks. Despite some changes in the lineup over the years, Dan Sealey and Andy Bennett have been permanent fixtures since replacing Damon Minchella in 2003.

Ocean Colour Scene are still developing their songwriting skills -- the sound is more impressive than the songs throughout Moseley Shoals -- but their second album is an unexpectedly enjoyable record. Penultimate track "You've Got It Bad" was another single, and is a great Britpop song before the nearly eight minutes of closing track "Get Away", the longest track here. The album contains three other UK Top 10 singles - 'The Day We Caught the Train', 'You've Got It Bad' and 'The Circle'. In 1998 they headlined their own arena tour in support of Marchin' Already and played three sold out nights at Stirling Castle, Scotland. They also played at V-festival where Inbetweeners actor James Buckley performed "The Circle" with them in Chelmsford and at The Electric Picnic Festival in Stradbally, Ireland. The EP received a 5 stars rating from Flick of the Finger, with the publication stating that 'Lushly textured, these four compelling and diverse new offerings are nothing short of brilliant. Products labelled '*item fulfilled by Exertis on behalf of hmv' will be supplied to you directly by Exertis via their approved couriers.

Magic Carpet Days", the first single from Saturday, was released on 25 January, followed by the album a few days later.Fourth track "Lining Your Pockets" is different, it's slower and reflective with a sixties British folk-pop sound that gradually builds to a crescendo as Simon Fowler's demonstrates the magnificence of his vocals. The band had formed during the height of Madchester, but they never released their first album until the scene was already dead, which left them without a following. A low-key start to their career was boosted by two things – the endorsement of two of Britain’s biggest pop stars – Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher, and the exposure given to the first single, The Riverboat Song, by Chris Evans on his hit TV show ‘TFI Friday’.

In December 2012, the band announced the forthcoming release of their tenth studio album, Painting, which was released on 11 February 2013.

When their record label was swallowed up by larger company Phonogram their eponymous début album was remixed, against the band's wishes, to fit in with the Baggy/indie-dance musical trend of the time.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The band also released a live album in December 2006, which was recorded at Birmingham Academy and spread over two discs. So while that's three out of three so far you have to question the wisdom, or perhaps the self-belief, of any band that front-loads its second album with three hits. December saw the limited edition release of a double CD/DVD release of the band's Moseley Shoals gig at O2 Academy Birmingham, which was filmed on 26 February 2011.
