About this deal

The British rock band Mungo Jerry derived their name from the book's poem " Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer". S. Eliot’s beloved cat poems Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, containing beautiful original colour illustrations by Axel Scheffler. S. Eliot published Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats through the publishing house Faber and Faber, where he served as an editor.

Actually, what I want is a collection of light verse by lots of different people: Lin Manuel Miranda and Kate Bush and Childish Gambino and Adele (I can think of a number of lyricists, but I am not up at all on actual poets as such). On 5 June 2009, The Times revealed that in 1937 Eliot had composed a 34-line poem entitled "Cows" for the children of Frank Morley, a friend who, like Eliot, was a director of the publishing company Faber and Faber. If cats, witchy or not, are your child’s thing don’t miss the new Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. Time "An absolutely marvelous rendition of Eliot's poetic classic, written for his godchildren and friends in the 1930s, which inspired the Broadway musical Cats .The penultimate poem, “The Ad-dressing of Cats,” comes full circle by again explaining how important names are to cats. In addition, Geoffrey Tandy would be the first to present the cat poems to a wider public, as he read parts of Practical Cats on BBC radio on the Christmas Day of 1937, two years before the book was published. Throughout the 1930s he composed the now famous poems about Macavity, Old Deuteronomy, Mr Mistoffelees and many other cats, under the name of ‘Old Possum’. The book of light verse was the basis of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats, which was first produced in London's West End in 1981 and opened on Broadway the following year. I read it to my grandchildren of 9 and 5 and they enjoyed it very much, especially as they have cats at home.

He settled in England in 1915, where for a few years he worked in the foreign section of Lloyds Bank. For instance it would have been good if Scheffler had drawn Growltiger attacking each of the animals and creatures in his path. This book is a good way to introduce TS Eliot's poetry to young children as the illustrations make it more interesting and fun. They are delightful poetry in their own right with varied use of language and phrasing and poetic devices.

Rebecca works from her studio in the countryside near Stroud (UK), where she lives with her husband and two children. Okay, after I finished reading this classic, I decided to gird the proverbial loins and watch the Tom Hooper movie for the first time. The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter, It isn't just one of your holiday games; You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter When I tell you, a cat must have three different names. The acclaimed poet of The Waste Land, Four Quartets, and Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, among numerous other poems, prose, and works of drama, won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1948. Second, I adopted a pet cat -- a little calico -- some months ago after more that 15 years without one. The best-known musical adaptation of the poems is Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Cats, which was premiered in the West End of London in 1981 and on Broadway in 1982. It is a shame if grown-up readers aren't taken by the illustrations, but grown-ups can appreciate picture book treatments of old classics as well as the next child. To celebrate Old Possum’s 75th anniversary we have commissioned lively new illustrations from Rebecca Ashdown for T.
