The designer teamed with Vintage Classics on a gift edition of Lewis Carroll's tale to celebrate its 150th anniversary. Featuring an all-Black cast, the shoot starred model Duckie Thot as Alice in baby blue and platform heels, and drag superstar RuPaul as a magnificently imperious Queen of Hearts. Now when we think of the little girl who grows, shrinks, and navigates all manner of odd encounters, we tend to imagine her in a blue dress with an Alice band.

Tiny crockery, vintage props and sweet treats fill the table, capturing the magic and mysteries of Wonderland. A Mad Hatter’s Tea Party scene is created in collaboration with Vivienne Westwood’s creative team for the 150th anniversary edition of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

There's her growing, shrinking, going to court, meeting obscure and obtuse critters, and there's her waking from the most famous dream created by mankind (before Dallas, of course). For many of these creators and brands, Alice also speaks directly to the power of youthful imagination.

The second designer is Claudia Bradby, who has designed a pearl Alice necklace and bracelet set to mark this very important birthday. Alice’s legacy extends in many directions, but she’s cast a particularly significant shadow over fashion. Card, paper and pens were used to depict individual characters, each with their own unique prop and inspired by the books’ original illustrations. So this book, while honouring one birthday, is a full six years early to celebrate the 150th of what makes it so great. Previously the book has been introduced by Michael Irwin, a professor of English literature at the University of Kent, and Hugh Haughton, a professor of English literature at York University, who tells me that he thinks Alice in Wonderland is, “the greatest text of dream realism ever written”. WWD reports that the English fashion designer, who was inspired by the tale to shape up her Fall/Winter 2012 collection, has teamed with Vintage Classics for this special gift edition of Lewis Carroll’s tale of a girl named Alice falling through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures.The Queen of Hearts, Mad Hatter and White Rabbit surrounded a bespoke distorted table adorned in Westwood’s fabric that shrunk down to miniature size.
