About this deal

I realize I’m taking a big risk here by putting a hard rock band like Alter Bridge in the same, well not ball park, let’s say the National League, with some of the bands I’m going to mention. This album was recorded differently from the band's previous record due to scheduling constraints, with vocalist Myles Kennedy and guitarist Mark Tremonti sharing their own song ideas, which were then moulded into shape alongside bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Phillips. In terms of highlights on the album, the slower, ballad-type songs continue to be AB’s strongest offerings. I feel that AB are an underrated act (if such as thing exists), failing to gain the extensive exposure in the States when compared to the adoration they appear to enjoy in Europe.

Alter Bridge guitar hero Mark Tremonti reflects on some of the most important songs of his life (spoiler: he really, really likes Metallica). The Bitter End', 'Godspeed' and particularly 'Dying Light' competently capture the melancholic, yet somehow uplifting essence of classic AB tracks like 'Watch Over You' and 'In Loving Memory'. With Walking on the Sky there is no wonder why the guys picked exactly this one song to name the whole album after.I haven’t talked about lyrical content but there is sort of an introspective feel on this entire album. Water Rising is for sure an epic song and it’s no wonder that it has its place in the live show setlist for years. This time, the guys tried to reinvent themselves in a whole new spectrum while already bringing to the table sometimes nearly finished songs.

Thick, low end bass guitar, soaring guitar solos and chorus harmony vocals that will resonate with every fan. I would be surprised if this one did not make it to the setlist for live shows, but as it happens, sometimes the most epic songs are not to be played live. Mark Tremonti remains one of the finest and most explosive guitarists in rock, and any album he’s involved in will squeal like a rat in a gangster movie. But in terms of producing a superior rock record that manages to combine a sense of modernity with being fully briefed on the heritage from which it is formed, Walk The Sky is hard to beat. You can reach him via Twitter, where he is known to tweet out upcoming interviews to gather questions from fans that have the chance to be included in the interview and podcast. The album even starts with just one-and-a-half-minute long song One Life, going easy on vocals of Myles Kennedy, having this exact calming vibe that I rather enjoy at the beginning. I know and witnessed what this guy can do with his voice, the high note in Words Darker Than Their Wings is legendary. Indeed after listening through a few more times, I became convinced that this would become one of my favorite AB records. It's particularly challenging when you've had so many records, but when I showed Myles what I was thinking, he absolutely loved it and was on board right away. The EP features a new studio track, "Last Rites", written, recorded and completed entirely during the COVID-19 lockdown, and six live tracks taken from their American Victorious Sky Tour.
