About this deal

Plus, and a BIG PLUS, this book is spiral bound which makes it WAY, WAY more easy to place it on your music stand and open to any page without needing bricks to hold pages open. Carl Fischer is proud to present a new edition of the method of choice for generations of trombone and baritone players. The Art of Phrasing (short tunes for musical study), and additional theme and variation pieces at the back of the book.

The range goes from very low Double Pedal D-flat to a high C (C5) an octave above middle C (C4) on the piano.Because everything we learn how to do makes everything else we already know how to do that much better. It doesn’t make any special mention about the initial heating, so you have to resort, for example, to the Stamp method or similar. Imagine, then, my delight in learning of a new, expanded edition of Arban with commentary by Brian Bowman and Joseph Alessi, two of the brightest stars in today's low brass world. The method begins with basic exercises and progresses to very advanced compositions, including the famous arrangement of Carnival of Venice. Arban's Method for Trombone contains the same tried and true comprehensive system of study that Arban developed over a century ago, and this completely re-engraved edition has been painstakingly edited by prominent trombone performer and teacher Alan Raph, adding some of his own insights with respect to how the trombone and baritone are taught today.

Raph's exceptional edition also includes a CD of MP3 accompaniments to the 12 Celebrated Fantaisies and Airs Variés, as performed by John Walker, for a complete instructional package for trombone students. The classic edition that has served as the method of choice for generations of trombone players, Arban's Famous Method offers the student a comprehensive system of study for the trombone, including scales, etudes, duets, solos, and extensive exercises designed to develop musicianship and technique. On the other hand, we are working to create a routine that allows us to study the Arban not as the original (by type of exercise), but by exercise difficulty. Isaiah - I have that Arban's book as well, however, the best one to have (particularly if you are seriously going to use it) is the one edited by Joe Alessi and Brian Bowman. The spiral binding allows for easy reference and practical use on music stands, as it lays flat without obstruction during practice sessions.

it's my belief that if the piece lies well enough on the slide we can play as just about as fast as trumpets. You can also solve the range problem by using clefs as a transposition method (works better w/the Trumpet book). I was never really worried about playing them that fast, but determination and time spent with careful practice will determine your best speed if that's the goal.I hope this isn't too advanced of a question for here, but I wonder what speeds some of you guys are achieving (cleanly) in the Fantasy Variations.
