The police interviews under caution are also cringe worthy and the response of the suspects dim and dimmer. The scope of the vacation can be gained to a certain extent from the brief diary and map in this book. The image above shows what is thought to have been the Acle sub-base at Eastick’s Yacht Station near to the bridge.

Both regular and territorial forces were involved in the defence of the region, along with the Home Guard, the latter playing an increasingly more important role in those home defences as the war progressed.

There was a redeeming feature to the arrangement: DC Jenny Evans came along as part of the package and whilst it was early days for Tanner, he had to admit that despite the age difference she did appeal to him. Fourteen days of unfettered freedom on a floating home, in surroundings entirely different and better compared with other holidays. The card features a drawing of the Locks Inn at Geldeston, sketched in 1955 by Bernard Granville Baker and reproduced in postcard form. I really enjoyed this book, the story was fast paced with short enough chapters to make me want to keep turning the pages.

I’m on the hunt for a very special Director and also Exec Producer for a highly sensitive Crime Doc. America’ was likely to have suffered the same fate after the war, but a chance discovery in 1959 by a local resident who was spending his holidays sailing in the West Indies revealed that ‘America’ was still sailing – albeit some 4000 miles away from her original home. The choice seemed to be supermarket pizza, your local Curry (non existent where we live in the sticks! A bit more trawling (pun intended) of the internet revealed that the image above does indeed feature the harbour mouth at Seahouses. The lifeboat (above) was a different matter as it didn’t look like any location in Norfolk or Suffolk that I knew.

The fleet flew under a white burgee with a red star, a variation of the existing Woods blue star burgees. My only complaint -- and one that is purely my own personal preference -- is the (what is to me) awkward British phrases and slang. Overall this is a brilliant first serious book for David and I can’t wait to read the sequel, which is due out later this year. So we managed as best we could and a huge saving grace was that our lovely dinner lady was also a Michelin trained Chef.I felt there was a lot of describing and not much action at first then toward the end of the story the action picked up with some twists and turns and unexpected events taking place that eventually tied all the various cases up in a bow. Tanner and Evans continue with their investigations, alongside other officers and it soon becomes evident that this is going to be a tricky one to solve. The eastern coastline of Britain was thought to to be the most likely point of attack, with East Anglia in particular considered to be the most vulnerable. Thousands of troops were moved to East Anglia during those early years of the war and they all needed accommodation.

After a few ‘heated discussions’ about why it might be ok to try and sell it via the restaurant, a new business idea was forming. It was a monumental change for DI John Tanner: used to the shortened vistas of life in London it wasn't going to be easy to come to terms with the wide open skies of Norfolk.
