It’s a stable running shoe and Brooks are using their GuideRail technology on that medial side so it's catering for a mild overpronator. According to Brooks, Guide Rails will come into play, as needed, for both support oriented and neutral runners (as their stride falls out of place). I appreciate the full disclosure that you’re neutral runners, but it’s hard to parse out whether this is a good shoe for the runner it is actually designed for.

The GuideRails are designed to keep you moving forward without excess movement, with the intent of protecting the knees. I have tested a number of “rails” type support shoes including, React Infinity, Solar Boost and Altra Paradigm as well as less overt raised midsole side wall type support shoes such as Nike Zoom Vomero 14. I tried adjusting the tongue and then lacing my shoes differently, but I still had that issue with the left tongue. While it added to the comfort, I did have an issue with the padding on the underside of the tongue getting a little wadded up on the left shoe and pinching the top of my foot a bit. I personally also am not a fan of rails based shoes such as the Transcend which in fact are more focused on knee stability than pronation control. The overlays are flexible and forgiving, while the heel collar is pretty stiff, with a built up external collar outside of the upper. Deep flex grooves throughout the shoe, notably the forefoot seem to allow for a degree of flexibility. This is a great shoe for long runs; I used it when I was training for my marathon, and it helped when I was suffering from ITB issues in my leg.Jeff: Subtle shifts from the consistently great Glycerin means the Transcend is an excellent stability shoe, but it is still a stability shoe.
