About this deal

I used the 306CBN on a range of O1, A2 and PM-V11 chisel and plane blades, and was very pleased with its performance. Making a jump from a 400 CBN to 2K is fine and you'll find that when touching up that edge you can often go right 2K and then just strop plus using the 120 400 2k combo is an extremely fast way to get a good working edge, you can also follow up with a Chosera stone as as well if you want a more refined edge. I’ve been sharpening on high Rockwell powdered steels and see no wear on my pdtools metallic cubic boron nitride stones. Metallic CBN Sharpening Stones from Poltava Diamond Tools are used for sharpening knives using guided knife sharpeners (Hapstone, TSPROF, and other Edge Pro-compatible sharpening systems).

I think the Spyderco CBN is a great deal and you may have found a 1 stone solution for your sharpening needs for a long time. Poltava Metallic CBN Stone for Hapstone Edge Pro TSProf Sharpeners HPCBN ***Grits ranging from 800 grit to 8000 grit. Spyderco's 3x8 benchstone combines the many advantages of CBN with a classic flatstone format to supercharge traditional sharpening techniques. Most important is that CBN is harder and has greater abrasion, thermal and chemical resistance than either synthetic diamonds (though less so than natural diamond), silicon carbide or aluminum oxide. B. grössere Ausbrüche hat oder man einen anderen Winkel schleifen will, dann ist das Set dazu hervorragend geeignet, Absolut plane Steine, die in den gröberen Körnungen auch abrasiver als herkömmliche Schleifsteine sind.

Burr based sharpening is more common and produced better results from the testing I've personally done so far. These perform better in my opinion and experience than electroplated diamond stones, or diamond resin bars. When choosing an emulsion after sharpening it's best to use an emulsion that's 1 or 2 micron size's smaller then what the micron particle size's are made up of on the last stone you used, the idea is to get the diamonds in the emulsion between the grooves the stone made the same way you floss your teeth for better edge refinement,I choose to strop that way if I'm not going for a perfect mirror polished edge and just a working edge. The best metallic CBN stones to get are the 120 240 400 and 1K 2K,I personally would get the 120 400 and 1K stones for doing lower grit sharpening and then using the Venev stones you have to refine your edge or use a good quality Japanese water stone.

Seems more aggressive than my 80 grit EdgePro diamond matrix stone; this thing blasts through steel and throws big fluffy filings. At 3″ x 8″ the 306CBN is big enough to handle the largest plane blades and it easily accommodates a honing guide.

And if I only plan on sharpening to 800 + stropping, I would certainly appreciate the better ascetics of the edge.

I tend to lubricate the surface with a drop or two of water to lower on the dust, and once I am done, I rinse to remove the steel particles and air dry it. I liked Spyderco CBN Sharpmaker rods and Gauntlet cat-eye CBN rods so well that I picked up the CBN benchstone as well.I don't have access to Cliff Stamp to discuss my findings when I used his plateau method for the 10 trials I did. The CBN stones are suitable for creating cutting bevels or grinding out nicks on knives, planes and chisels. Once your edge has all the damage removed and the actual apex is no longer visibly reflecting light -- then you know that you have gotten the apex thin enough to apply a micro-bevel at apex.

I'm no pro, but in my experience it works well for free-hand sharpening as long as I remember to use a light touch. It offers much better value than a Waterstone in that it’s harder, more durable, lasts longer, and will never need to be flattened. The quality of the products does not correspond to the premium class that the Poltava Diamond Tools plant produces today :(. Ideal for putting an edge on knives, this stone is also the perfect choice for sharpening wood chisels, plane irons, and similar tools and comes complete with a high-quality suede protective case. When you flatten them use the coarsest powder then move to a powder that's halfway between the stones grit then finish using a powder the same grit or 1 grit lower. I’m looking at starting with the resin bonded cbn 50/40 micron and 20/14 micron stones if anyone has specific experience with these stones.
