Other than the Magician being renamed as ‘The Magus’ and the World being renamed as ‘The Universe’ the major arcana cards featured within The Cosmic Slumber Tarot follow the traditional Rider Waite set up and are easy to understand and to work with. As I was looking through the cards, soaking up this incredibly feminine energy and really loving every minute of it, I decided that the guidebook was probably going to disappoint me. Upright and Reversed) They were listed as “bonus” cards, I’m very new to tarot and the descriptions of them were rather short. I would say that there is some kind of “diversity” in the deck, but I’m no longer sure, first, what that means as a term, and second, if it’s true.One feature in the packaging design that could have been done better is the spacer you see in the above photograph. The cards measure 70 x 120 mm which is a fairly standard size for a tarot deck – considerably larger than playing cards, but not so outsize that they cannot be handled. I am not usually a big lover of that much burst of vibrant colours, but what you did really work to find it a place in my heart. I love that she told the story of her friend Beth Fisher, a tarot expert with whom she collaborated to make the deck.

I’m thinking of the 7 of Cups, that shows seven cups along with a young man who appears to be diving for treasure (the cups). Some of the card imagery deviates from the common RWS depictions (as in the Three of Pentacles further down in this post), which may require a certain level of adjustment for habituated RWS readers, but for the most part the scenes in the cards are clear, direct, and easy to understand. The packaging design for the deck is so clever that it took me a good minute just to figure out how to open the box.This isn’t a negative point, for me this is what Tarot is all about, what I see in an image someone else will see something else and that is the beauty of it. As for the imagery in the deck, the Major Arcana are largely based on the RWS system, but there are a couple of cards that stand out for their uniqueness.
