About this deal

Intriguing is most definitely the operative word, with the creepy setting adding a kind of tension to the chapter, a foreboding or sense of apprehension that only grows the more we read, one which we soon learn is highly justified. The final section of the book was fast moving and realistic with plenty of dark humour and several twists that weren’t telegraphed well in advance, something that always makes a nice change. This piques their interest and when they open it up they, sure enough, find Tam sprawled below the slab of granite used to cover it. As much as I dislike unnecessary prologues and although it’s not titled as such the first chapter is written from the perspective of the missing man right before he vanished and it really worked as we get to meet him first-hand in a way that we wouldn’t otherwise.

It's fast-paced, stylishly woven and thoroughly atmospheric with some beautiful scenic descriptions and never a dull moment. I was hooked by the opening scenario of the old man in a strange grave and drawn in further by the reason for his murder. Angus king always does a fantastic job and I actively look for books he narrates, which is how I found this! With book three due out next month, I thought it was about time I caught up and have this and book two in my reading list this month. My wife’s best friend, Gail and her huge family had hired out this beautiful, massive house for a week and they had travelled from all over the world to be together for Christmas. Tam Hardie stood, a mix of apprehension and excitement beginning to take hold as he saw the six words that his grandfather had assured him would be there. It’s not your standard “man killed, find killer” fare as the killer is found quickly and this is just the appetiser.

Dead Man’s Grave is the first instalment in the DS Max Craigie Scottish Crime Thrillers series, a book that reels you in from the very first sentence only releasing you from its grasp once the story has concluded. Been off work for 3 months after surgery, surrounded by dozens of books that I pick up and put down, nothing gripped me. Summary: The first in a new series left me wondering to start with but the book quickly grabbed me and wouldn't let go.

The author was previously a Metropolitan police detective investigating serious crimes in addition to serving in the military police so I would recommend this to those connoisseurs of police tactical methods. hectare (315-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-east of Icklingham in Suffolk. Neil Lancaster will insist on spelling things out for us which he’s already implied, and peppering this laboured prose with stale usage and cliché. The hardback will be out on the 16th September, and the paperback will be out on the 20th January 2022.

For the majority of this story, he’s paired with Janie Calder, a university graduate on the fast-track promotion career path, who is seen as a bit of an oddball for her academic interests and achievements as well as her avant garde musical tastes. The action is vivid, the plot engaging and there’s an historical background which adds to the intriguing interest of the plot. This is a fast paced, enjoyable and exciting crime read that is hard to let go of, it is engaging and entertaining, and I loved both main characters.
