About this deal

I suppose Lowe's is following HD's lead on this but as I mentioned before, ACE still has it on the shelves. It seemed someone made a mistake and they actually go 6 more new ones that morning, and couldn't find the box for the floor sample. I do wish it was a tad stickier most of the time it sticks perfectly, but I’ve had moments like I was putting a chair back together and one of the dowels for a leg spindle that connected the legs together.

I first sanded the whole top down with 60 grit sandpaper and tried to sand out as much of the burn as possible. If the dried filler has shrunk or is not completely smooth with the edges, add more filler and repeat the process. New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging .I've tried Famo (didn't like it but don't remember why), the Elmer's and others in tubes (can't get it out of the tube), the ones with "Real Wood" (don't like the texture, saw dust, or fibers). Actually the stainable one is much grainer and really sucks, in my opinion, for filling balsa voids.

But then the harden putty just fell off but I think it was too dry, so I’m going to try again since I’m getting more.Well part of the wood dowel broke leaving half a dowel normally I’d attempt to glue the broken wood that came off and I tried that but I couldn’t get the clamp to stay still, so I threw the broken part away and put wood putty in it’s place and formed the putty into the same shape as the dowel was originally. Meanwhile, I'll do some tests on the plain "interior only" CWF tube I bought from walmart, to see if it acts like the usual stuff or the nasty "stainable" stuff. Find a shade that matches your stained top, gouge out a little of the Elmers and fill the top of your hole with the colored putty, flush with the top of your piece.

For me, the metal of a putty knife wants to pull Timbermate a bit out of the hole if you work it too much, but using a little block of wood right after applying the filler really locks it in and levels the filler fast. I found it easy to work with, no fumes (in peoples homes), a few drops of water to change consistency, doesn't seem to shrink, dries fast. Well, I'm not terribly scientific about it, I just ground up a bunch of balsa scraps using a dremel, and dumped some elmers in.

If it was actually better in some way it seems like they'd either keep selling it or incorporate the formula in the current product. The impression that I got was that it would be a great product for the 'typical' use of a wood filler where you really want it to dry hard and be drillable without crumbling, but it was way too hard, and coarse, for balsa wood. The Walmart near my workplace has it in 24 can cases, as does usually the Marsh (supermarket) near my home. In fact I’ve glued broken wood pieces back together filled the gaps with wood putty then went to sand the area and I noticed that I could no longer see where the crack was, since I applied enough on so this wood filler can really work but it depends is the environment more humid or more dry.
