Longevity isn’t an important criterion for me, as I keep a bottle in my office at work and can reapply as needed. The smell all by itself paints a picture of a thousand words and transports you to another place entirely. First, because the similarities are close enough that the Lalique fragrance does give me some of what I love about Sycomore, and thus I can use it as a substitute at least sometimes, which allows me to save the Sycomore for special occasions. All I can tell you is that I did two hits to the shirt, wore it to work for 12hrs in heat, washed shirt a week later and I can still smell it on the shirt. This time the vetiver is soft and calming, a smooth smokiness that intends to lure you into the darkness – and we’d advise you follow.I'm in love with the original Encre Noire of its vetiver but I hardly recognize that note from this version. I do love using pure vetiver oil after the shower together with sesame oil and it smells divine, however, it is also rather resinous and sticky, a spray would be so much more convenient.
Lalique is a French family business founded by artist, ceramist and jeweler René Lalique, spanning three generations. The only vetiver I didn’t like that much was L’Artisan’s Coeur de Vetiver Sacre, mostly because it was not enough vetiver and too bland.I know an induviduals unique body chemistry have a role in sillage and longevity, but this stuff is through the roof. At the same time, I got a decant of a few popular fragrances that, based on everything I've heard and read, I had no doubt I would love.
Victoria: I also like Eau Sauvage Le Parfum, even though I was skeptical about yet another riff on Eau Sauvage, but it’s very well-done. It actually isn’t that strong which in my opinion actually saves this fragrance a little bit, the subtle wood scent works well. EN a L'Extreme is wonderful: vetiver, cypress, resins and incense with something very slightly powdery and minimally sweet at the base that brings everything into balance.
I don't know if my nose is playing tricks on me but I hardly can detect any smell bubble around me and I did like 7 sprays. It’s an instant super-faint skin scent, and I have to bury my nose in my arm straight out of the bottle and breathe deep to get even a hint of this. This perfume is utterly repugnant, and I say that as a person with great affection for the original Encre Noir. I have not tried the original Encre Noire, nor the Sport version, but I definitely will in the future! If you let it drift up to your nose that's where you'll find the infamous and addictive inky accord.
