About this deal

BUT if sometimes you just want a rollercoaster fun-packed comic book to entertain you, GET THIS and enjoy seeing the birth of modern comics again! For a comic book fan, it doesn't get much better in terms of art or imagination than this overstuffed volume of modern day Fantastic Four classics. The title would be just as good if Byrne ignored the rather suspect implications of these past stories.

It wasn’t long before it was being published once every second month, housing reprints of earlier stories. Lower corners a little bumped with slight edge-rub and small top rear corner tear to DJ only, bright and unmarked. Of course, the team could contact social services or the police, but there’s no indication that Reed does that either. Still, Byrne shrewdly tries to suggest that the Fantastic Four aren’t quite the idealised family unit that we tend to think of. He also wrote the first issues of Mike Mignola's Hellboy series and produced a number of Star Trek comics for IDW Publishing.

He actually flies the team back to his homeland of Latvaria and illustrates how the Fantastic Four, through their “hit and run” effort to depose him, actually destroyed the once-thriving country. Presenting for the 1st time ever, issues 1 to 30 of Fantastic Four, collected in a hard back book (weighing in at over 800 glossy pages! Light surface crease along lower edge of inside front flap of jacket, light spine end rubbing, Fine and bright, unmarked. Even after his run ended, I kept reading because he made the FF feel like a family, and I genuinely cared about all of them.

But we will have to wait until next issue to share in Johnny’s knowledge,” John Byrne teases at one point. The Skrulls from Outer Space’ were shape-changing aliens who framed the FF in the eyes of shocked humanity before the genius of Mister Fantastic bluffed them into abandoning their plans for conquering Earth. Byrne was arguably one of the truly iconic powerhouse comic book creators of the eighties and nineties.Byrne goes back to one of the very earliest Silver Age adventure, where the Fantastic Four turned a bunch of evil aliens into cows, and cleverly wonders what the consequences of such a stupid action might have been. The earliest stories are a bit too heavy on monsters and aliens, a carry-over from the pre-Marvel Atlas comics days. Oh,” Sue remarks, realising that the priest couldn’t see her, and sounding like she forgot to ask him if he wants a cup of tea.

And I have not even mentioned the usual ( you know, individual character development, the true to life arguments etc that revamped superhero fiction). Given the team forced a sentient being (even a nasty one) into slavery, it seems only fair that these decisions come back to haunt them. Coming into the comics profession exclusively as a penciler, Byrne began co-plotting the X-Men comics during his tenure on them, and launched his writing career in earnest with Fantastic Four (where he also started inking his own pencils).
