About this deal

The main thing is don’t be scared of feng shui or feel you will bring ‘bad luck’ if you need to break some rules.

As long as you understand the logic, there is no room too challenging, no problem feng shui can't unravel. Maybe it's because I lived for a year in a cheap apartment carved out of a Victorian mansion that I still managed to make livable that I find his analysis of awkward "flats" and redesigning them to be so fascinating. Cliff has become an internet sensation with his videos demonstrating the principles of feng shui, and in this practical guide he shows how to apply these principles room-by-room in your own home. If you are looking for a simple to read introduction to Feng Shui in the home then this is for you, easy to follow sections and explanation about the principles. But seeing as I'm moving into my new apartment in a month, I decided to listen to his advice to hopefully learn something that would be useful. We almost always feel better in a beautiful, balanced space, and that’s a step in the right direction to health, wealth and happiness. I love Cliff Tan’s social media videos and picked up this book for that reason, but I didn’t expect to get as much out of it as I did.

While I think this book was so helpful that I will likely get the physical book from the library to go over certain aspects again and maybe take some notes, the parts where he talked about where to place toilets and other things that would have to happen in the building stage of a house or in an expensive, extensive remodel are not so much relevant to me. If you think of your home as a map, how can you ever feel like you belong if you can get lost in it? Avoid mirrors in kitchens (which will reflect too much chi around the room) or having bins on display. Some of the learnings we maybe doing already because of feeling, so its nice to understand why we are drawn to certain positions or objects. In Feng Shui Modern, Cliff explains the concepts of feng shui and then uses expert tips and practical diagrams to show – room by room – how our own styles, colour palettes and furniture can be used to maximise any environment. That said, I do think this book can come in handy when you need a quick reference to something and if you prefer reading that watching videos, go for it! Cliff, 34, even has a catchphrase, ending each piece of advice – all flying arms and bubbling enthusiasm – with a grin and a cheery, “So, now you know! By exploring and explaining the science, debunking damaging myths, and smashing the taboos around the perimenopause and menopause, this book will equip women to make the most informed decisions about their health.
