David Tacey has made the very good point that Jung abandoned the direction that The Red Book was taking him in. Like the briefcase in the film Pulp Fiction the audience sees the object through its indirect effect on the characters. Readers unfamiliar with the anecdotal material Greene presents may find interesting avenues to pursue, but they should beware of the author's quirky, sometimes misleading brush-stroke characterizations.

It was associated with him but he was standing on the tradition of the dead to utter a phrase first recorded in the medieval period.
