With each page turned, you'll be learning fascinating facts associated with each region of the world. The country pages are very detailed and all include the flag, capital city, the languages spoken, population, and area as well as a host of other illustrations about the country including the wildlife, food, buildings, famous people and many more. This is a very well put together lovely looking keepsake book that I think any kid interested in maps, geography and the world around them will love! Informative and inspiring, the myriad activities in this book challenge the reader to discover something new and explore their imagination to draw, decorate and design every pull-out page. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. What makes Maps so special, aside from its fantastic and unique illustrations and fun and quirky facts, is the sheer atmosphere it creates and the feeling of discovery you get from turning its pages. The tagline on this gorgeous book promises you can 'Travel the globe without leaving your living room' and, for the armchair traveller this surely is the most fun way of doing so.

This book would have been very welcome at my school last term when Iceland was included in the Year 1 topic of Around the World! You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. There is a dearth of information about some of these places (publishers tend to concentrate on what they see as the 'main' countries), particularly for young children. Used books have different signs of use and might not include supplemental materials such as CDs, Dvds, Access Codes, charts or any other extra material. If you love BIG books and clear informative maps, then this is the book for you , and for your grandchildren! Sure enough, it's a huge book that has little to no chance of ever fitting on a bookshelf and it is full of facts beautifully presented. Talk about all the fabulous things to do in each country and detailed history with great quality pictures, even ive learnt something new.

The oversized coffee table book has double page spreads of each map, beginning with a world map then split into continents, with maps from a selection of countries from that continent behind the continent map. In 2010 they were nominated for the Bologna Ragazzi Award and have since been nominated for the IBBY Honour List (2010). The countries are illustrated with animals - both current and prehistoric - which makes retention of facts so much easier.A feast for the eyes, with lavish drawings from the Mizielinskis, go on a journey and discover cities, rivers, mountains as well as cultural places of interest, iconic animals and personalities.
