About this deal

In fact, I find this to be easily the best representation of lower midrange detail in any entry-level IEM so far. Both sets aren’t far apart when it comes to resolution although the Etymotic are ultimately a bit ahead, which is especially audible in the lows in very fast and demanding scenarios where the Starfield just sound softer, slower and lose control earlier.

Imaging: Imaging is mostly left-right and while the spatial cues are alright, the instrument placement, separation and layering leaves a lot to be desired. Litz wire is a special type of multistrand wire or cable used in electronics to carry alternating current (AC) at radio frequencies. I find myself wishing they would insert deeper and I have to constantly re-adjust these while wearing them. Beautiful dark blue metallic colour that changes quite a bit and appears different depending on the environmental lighting. This is especially evident once again in the lower midrange where I think the Starfield's dynamic driver shines most brightly. I actually almost gave up on these very early on because the sound, especially the bass, was just not very good. Importantly it's also light and not stiff so it doesn't get stuck by holding its shape the way many other IEMs and headphones often do. As mentioned before, stick with something clean and neutral, something regarded for an exceptional treble response.

Furthermore, it seems that the bass isn't pushing the track along at the same pace as the rest of it. For most intents and purposes - at least tonally - they're close to identical sans that slight upper-midrange bump on the KXXS. The paint definitely steals the show with these IEMs and are for many, as it was for me, a big draw to the IEM since it looks so different than many of the other models. The Starfield is significantly heavier than the FiiO FH1s I have just received, about 3x as heavy as the Alpha and Deltas too! String instruments lack bite as notes are rounded off, as can be heard on The Paper Kite’s Nothing More Than That (the guitar squeaks for example). Not unlike the 64 Audio U12t, the Starfield toes the line between being intangibly pleasing and slightly neutering resolution with its soft, blunted transient attack; decay is equally oh-so-natural. Lower mid-range is neither upfront nor recessed, it is placed quite neutral, there's a very minimal bass bleed but it isn't audible unless you are really nitpicking. Actually I’m using the Creative Aurvana Air, but even if I love the details it gives, I found it too flat and weak in mid an high range (maybe for the really poor source, my smartphone).

Lower mids are full enough to give baritone vocals their signature heft without making them sound boxy (check out Ben Howard’s Cloud Nine). The 2019-2020 portable season has been absolutely beyond absurd in great deals and interesting tech releases.pin inward universal interface, which meets the users' requirements for extensibility and playability of the earphones.

Different from KXXS’s sharp, wide, accurate sound field and super clear analysis, Starfield focus on delicate, soft, stretched sound and excellent quality bringing a delicate balance between balance and musicality. The Starfield's diaphragm is a composite of carbon nanotube array warp and weft knitted in a polymer film, making this only 6 microns (0. The Starfield's bass lacks authority and while it has decent extension, mid-bass is much more present than sub-bass. They're pretty small, the fit right inside of the ear with no parts hanging outside, what helps in the isolation of external sounds, the inner part is molded so it's anatomical and it helps the IEM to stay in place.

My set came in a few small clear plastic ziplock bags with just the IEMs, cable and silicone ear tips in varying sizes. Lastly, I used them for a whole month before writing this review, this is not a “gotta review this in one-week” kinda impression/review post. Despite that if you’re sure that this is what you want — go right ahead and pay no heed to my cynical thoughts. There’s a slight mid-bass boost to give a sense of warmth and the sub-bass is decently extended with good enough rumble up to 30Hz and slight rumble until 26Hz (after which it rolls off).
