I understand structure-wise why the happenings only involved him without his pirates but for this being the origin story of Captain Hook, I was annoyed by the lack of pirate content throughout the entire second third of the book. We got to see more cursed objects, and how some of those objects came to be in other Villains possession! James is claimed by his parents just shy of seven days—after which he would have officially become a Lost Boy. Now, over twenty years later, her father has passed away and she's in New Bern, North Carolina cleaning out his house when she finds evidence to the contrary. I'm always able to keep up with nuanced, complicated plots, but this one proved too much for me, so at some point in the middle I was completely lost. Author Serena Valentino has taken the world by storm with her New York Times best-selling Disney Villains novels published by Disney Publishing Worldwide. The series books were definitely more interesting in the beginning than they have been with the past few. Belle has broken the enchantress' curse, restoring the Beast to his human form and bringing life back to their castle in the principality of Aveyon.

When Peter Pan and his fairy companion, Tinker Bell, fly in through the window of Wendy's nursery one night, it is the beginning of an adventure that whisks Wendy and her brothers, Michael and John, off to Neverland. Anyone who likes Hook backstories that don't delve too deep, short books, and perhaps previous books in Serena Valentino's Villains series (though I have not read them, so I don't think they're necessary if you don't want to read them).All of this is done fairly quickly in the first 100 pages, but I was having so much fun seeing the backstory Serena Valentino came up for the future Captain Hook. Definitely not my favourite story in the series, but it ended up being a worthwhile inclusion in the overall story of the sisters. Mother Knows Best: A Tale of the Old Witch and The Odd Sisters: A Villains Book to be released in Summer 2019.

He became very same-same and despite settling well into his life as a pirate, he didn’t seem to develop in character. I think his final look somehow doesn't match the kind of man described in the beginning of the story, but no matter how he looks on the cover it's hard not to feel for him, not to admire his willpower, his perseverance and his capacity to hold on to a dream and to keep on fighting to make that dream true.
