About this deal

The main advantage of these artist-grade oil-based pencils is that it has an exceptional lightfast rating. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. There is a leather flap at the top and bottom to cover up the leads of the pencils to prevent them being broken when transported and the case folds over to half the size and can then be rolled up and safely kept closed with a leather strip and a secure popper (press stud). And I found that Lyra Rembrandt’s Polycolor colored pencils are a great overall choice for most artists.

I picked this over Faber-Castell’s Polychromos because the Polychromos lacked a decent range of skin tones which are quite important (it was a very tough choice! But nothing beats a pencil for ease and convenience especially for eyes and between teeth or minute windows in a night scene. I understand that not everyone can afford the top quality pencils, but you’ll see the difference in your work, if you can afford it. For those of you with more experience, these are great for a travel set and for creating beautiful images with and the range of colours is ideal for almost any project if you get the largest set of 72 pencils. They’re great for blending colours and creating different effects than regular coloured pencils can. If you are learning and not quite ready to invest in the higher quality pencils, then this pencil is your best bet.

If you want richly saturated colours without having to use acrylic paints on your paper, then oil-based pencils would be best for you. While oil-based colored pencils tend to be more expensive, there are also premium wax-based pencils like the Caran D’ache Luminance colored pencils. I have to say that the information I was given by both Chemists was incredibly complex and for some of my intellectual deficiency, I was at times very confused and did take as many notes as I could. It is this reason that I say the pencils could not be used for gallery standard work or commissions, not because of the pencil quality. I would also strongly advise creating a colour chart with the number of each pencil and a shaded section from light to dark so that you have it to hand (see mine below). It’s also difficult to replicate colours without this if you’re half way through a project and don’t remember what colour you used.
